Biography

My kind are meant to be strong. But when the shadowed ones hurt me, i could not stop them.

They would not kill me. I think they feared what may come with the death of my kind. They hurt me, over and over; they made me bleed onto the ground, until my limbs grew weak and my head heavy with fog.

They would not kill me. I think they feared what may come with the death of my kind. That made me bold, bold enough that one night I strayed; but the night hid poorly my shape, my color, and the shadows climbed to drag me down. I heard them say -- a thing craves blood; one imperial does not an Emperor make, and may hold blood enough to satisfy it well.

I feared for my life. I brought sparks to my talons and they pierced the binding shadows, and I fled. The shadowed ones were not so many, then. Not so strong. But I too was young, and they had trained me to fear, and the shadowed ones hurt me sore before I broke free. Terror lent me strength, and I felt no injury though my blood fed the ground below.

Fae found me, a frightened pair who fled in my distraction. They tended me on the edge of the plateau whose winds had borne my failing wings.

I hope the thing remembers the taste of my blood in its teeth. I am stronger now. I fight. My wings are broad when the little ones hide beneath them, and my blood will make swampland of the earth before I let the shadowed ones hurt them. I hope the shadowed ones know me when my talons tear them.

I will not forget.
