Vixen
Botanist and Wind Flight Representative
Coy | Quiet | Loyal

Vixen was born in Tumbleweed village. All dragons there was a part of the Tumbleweed subspecies. She thought of herself as a wind flight representative and was very proud of it. However, others dragons seemed to think otherwise about her. She was a quiet dragon, so she rarely spoke with anyone else. Her best friend was a male skydancer named Klade. They both loved botany, and birds. They always felt close to nature and was attached to it. It brought them together. However, there was a huge problem. Vixen and Klade were always bullied when she was at school, outside the village. Botany wasn't popular with the students of other villages and subspecies. So in their spare time, and also to avoid bullies, Vixen and Klade opened their own secret herb garden. Vixen gathered as much magical herbs and flowers as she could and planted them. They would study the plants together and learn their magical powers. Soon, they became experts at botany without even knowing it.

Time flew by, and Vixen grew into a beautiful young female. Without knowing it, she began falling in love with Klade. Every time they met at the herb garden, she would blush. One day, Klade said to her, "Are you willing to stay with me forever?" She opened her mouth with surprise, then shyly answered, "Yes." Vixen's heart burst with joy when she realized they were now mates. Together, they opened the herb garden to the whole of Sornieth, curing those who are ill. Many were healed by their kind claws. Dragons began to respect Vixen and Klade as their hero.

Born in the sanctity of the Tumbleweed village, from which, all the dragons born were of the Tumbleweed subspecies. She considered herself to be born to represent the wind flight, but the others were skeptics about her potential. They said that she was too caught up in nature, and all of it was true; she adored everything from the ground up; the ground to the sky, it all fell into her jurisdiction. She’d help the weak hatchlings who were budding from the nest by putting a helpful gust of wind underneath their wings to help them soar. She rarely spoke to anybody – The pursuit of botany, of which she found herself drawn to, was an unpopular persuit by her own subspecies, and even the other village where she went to school. She didn’t think that she would ever find somebody like her, somebody who had the same affinity that she did.

But then she met Klade, a male skydancer, and she was proved wrong. The two of them went to school togeather, and they became best friends. They both had an interest in growing plants, and even he had the same passion that she had towards birdwatching. Their closeness to nature drew each other together, even though the outside world was unsupportive, to say the least. The two were picked on at school, bullied by those who looked down upon them. The two found refuge in a patch of wood. They tilled the soil, built fences to surround it, and planted seeds into the Earth, keeping them watered. They began their own herb garden, a place where they could get away from the taunting and the bullying. The two became absorbed in their work and learned all of the magic powers of the plants by studying them, becoming experts in botany.

It was a novel idea, and she found herself falling for Klade more and more as she got older. They’d meet eyes in the garden, and she’d blush. One day, Klade asked her, “Are you willing to stay with me forever?” She froze, opened her mouth, and with a timid voice, answered, “Yes.” When she realized that that vow had made the two mates, her heart burst with excitement. With him by her side, and with her by his side, she knew that she would never have to fear the bullies again. Togeather, they opened their garden, which had bloomed, just like their love, from the very first seeds into a lush forest of herbs. They were able to use their skills to good use, healing the sick and injured with their kind claws. Many who were saved by the dragons thought them as their heroes, and when their villages saw that their talents weren’t useless, the bullying stopped. They became something much more than either of them had apart.

Tumbleweed

"Nature"

Birds chirped, sang, tweeted, and hopped from branch to branch, twig to twig. Vixen's eyes watched as a robin flit through the air and disappear into the foliage. Her wings warmed under the morning sun, the green silks that hung off of them shivering in their shadow. The smell of honeydew floated around the mystical forest like butterflies fluttering on a rose bush. Water droplets clung to her claws as they slowly passed through the cool grass, giving her otherwise dull hands a soft sheen. Towering trees hid the wildlife and plants from the Skydancer, squirrels and rabbits popping up for only a second before disappearing yet again. Vixen smiled whenever she saw a bird curiously peeping at her from the protection of the trees. It was adorable to her. The dove that rested upon her back hid itself under Vixen's verdant shawl.

"Not here either... Vixen? We need to carry on, the flower isn't here," an Imperial told Vixen, daydreaming. The long dragon was crouching beside a patch of orange and crimson flowers, hands shifting them to the side while carefully not snapping their delicate stems. A cricket buzzed. It was an ugly sound among the sweetly pitched birds, blasting like a trumpet. It was, fortunately, interrupted when Esmeralda's tail tuft brushed its podium. Her hunter's cap gave her an adventurous look. Vixen wondered how similar her friend was to the popular Robin Hood as Esmeralda was crawling across the floor, intensely inspecting the footprints Vixen didn't know of.

"These're the tracks of a badger. Badgers always go to weird, hidden spots. Perhaps we'll find the Fire Blossom there, so... we better follow the trail," Esmeralda began slithering across the ground as her nose was almost pressed against the badger's path. Vixen simply nodded at the Imperial and followed her. Carefully treading over the saplings that grew near the torn up earth, she kept a watchful eye out for any plants that were either red, orange, or brown. Her mystical garden needed a touch of colour in just one spot of it. Vixen needed the Fire Blossom. She would only return to her house once the flower was in her grasp, even if it meant searching all day.

The forest had become denser when Esmeralda froze in front of a thicket, head still down like a hound. Vixen, confused, hopped over a dandelion before she froze too. Laying in front of them was a caterpillar. A massive one. It was almost as big as Esmeralda's forearm. A chewed up leaf was clamped in its jaws, quickly being worked away into nothingness. The caterpillar was a burning yellow with chestnut spots dotting its sides, making it stand out in the emerald grass. Both Vixen and Esmeralda knew that it was impossible for the bug to survive this long in this current environment, so there had to be a place nearby. Their eyes met and Esmeralda's face broke into a grin.

"I can feel the heat coming from this way," Esmeralda was excited. Walking back a couple metres, she ran towards the spiky bushes before gracefully clearing it, wings acting like little gliders. A laughter could be heard from the other side and the sound of rustling. Vixen, not wanting to be left behind, pattered from left to right. She didn't want to jump over the bush, she couldn't, but she didn't know how else she could get over it. There wasn't enough space around her for her to be able to fly upwards. Her wings would have just bumped into the tree trunks.

"Vixen! Come on! I don't want to be the only one seeing this!" Esmeralda sounded ecstatic. Gathering courage within herself, the shy Skydancer began walking backwards, mindful of where she was stepping. The monstrous caterpillar crawled away. Gulping in a deep breath of fresh air, Vixen copied Esmeralda. Traces of mud flicked up into the air when her feet left the floor. Tensing her muscles, Vixen leaped up, up, and over. The thorns tickled her feet as she went over. Twigs grazed her face, she closed her eyes, and her paws scrabbled at the threatening air in front. Soft ground met her.

Fearfully, Vixen opened her eyes. At first the only colour she could see was orange: a burning orange. As she looked around the only thing she felt was astonishment. How had they not found this place before? Gnarled maple trees grew in a circle, forming a formidable wall against intruders that had bad intentions. There was an almost purposefully made path towards the centre of it all; towards a sea of Fire Blossoms. Despite being the same colour as the grass, trees, and even animals around them, they stood out like a cuckoo in a bird's nest. Each petal had a unique pattern of golden swirls entangling the orange. Vixen pinched her skin to make sure she wasn't dreaming.

A rough hand grabbed Vixen's and dragged her towards the dreamy scene, snapping her out of her hypnotised state. Esmeralda giggled as Vixen squeaked. The grown Imperial acted like a schoolgirl as she skipped across the carpet of grass. Vixen stumbled across the tall grass that had been undisturbed by dragons for decades. Esmeralda forgot about her friend when she finally stepped in front of all the flowers, clearly about to burst with happiness. Vixen knelt, the smell of strong nectar refreshing her. Miniature versions of the caterpillar from before wriggled over the flowers, not eating them, but eating the weeds that threatened the existence of them.

"Vixen, Vixen! Look up! Vixen!" Vixen had to tear her eyes from the gorgeous scene in front of her to see what Esmeralda could be blabbering about. It had better be worth her time if Esmeralda wanted her to look up so badly. Vixen looked up.

She didn't regret it.
