The bright beast stands tall over the fae, all four legs spread, a deep growl emitting from her chest as she grins, displays her sharp teeth and says: "Payment has increased by ten percent since last year, insect; it's now a 100 treasure for every 100 gram. Which would be ..." the fae dares a glance at her substantial load... It's a lot. " ... 6400 treasure, in total."
He gapes at her, "You're a goddamn criminal! I could a buy a dragon for that!" Her grin widens, "Post word is hard work, especially in the Wasteland. Pay up, vermin, or I'll crush your little hut." The hard rock under her feet cracks threateningly.

He grumbles lowly to himself, but pays the price. She bounds off happily, her long tail making a sweeping move dangerously close to his dwelling. In the distance, a pack of pustule-covered wolves catches up to her, wagging and barking. In the sky, vultures are circling.

Shabanza is proud to call herself the best postwoman in the wasteland. It's not easy or safe work. Her wolfish comrades and avian friends keep the area clean as she covers long distances on foot, bringing packages and mail with high speed. So what if she demands a little extra? It's a tough life, where only the tough thrive.

She arrives at the clan's home; a pack of golden, sharp-toothed mirror pups throw themselves at her. She snuggles them close, a happy growling sound deep in her chest. Shabanza is a real mama-machine, producing strong, toothy hatchlings at a frightening tempo. She loves every one of them, even if their names are a bit beyond the usual. When they are ready, she sends them to the Plague Mother, to do their part. Every time she hears news of her children's accomplishments, her breast swells with pride.

Shabanza is very fond of the other hatchlings, too, regularly regaling them with tales of her ancestral home.
"Only the strong survive in Dragonhome", she says, sharpening her claws. "It's much like our Mother's Scarred Wasteland, only drier. Water and food is sparse, and there is no protection against the elements, unless you can dig yourself a cave. And what caves! The caves are filled with every monstrosity the mind can conjure. It's magnificent!" There's a dangerous glint in her eyes. "Papa Dirt doesn't deserve any of it."
"But Shabanza," the hatchlings cry, "Weren't you born in Earth? We thought you worshipped the Earthshaker?"
A shrill, bitter laugh worms its way out of the golden mirror's maw: "Hah, the old man?! No jokes, children! The codger is a weak excuse for a dragon, let alone a diety. He should be out there, bringing his legions to war, carving a path through Sornieth! But noooo, he just sits there, wallowing in the past, thinking patience may somehow bring his kin home. It won't, of course. You have to fight tooth and nail for what you believe in; Mother Plague knows this very well. As should you, children." She yawns and stands, shaking the half a dozen hatchlings off her back. "Off you go, kiddos, make Mother proud." The hatchlings scamper off, eager to escape yet another monologue.

Her neighbours send her suspicious glares from afar, but quickly look away when she glances in their direction. She's not exactly a popular one; she rarely interacts with the others, and is needlessly rude and aggressive. So busy with the hatchlings and her post work, one can hardly share even a word with her. She doesn't mind the simmering hostility; she has her children, the wolves and the vultures to keep her company. She needs nothing else in her life.

She dresses for the next day of work. A nice red coat draped across her body, and a matching satchel wrapped around her hips. She looks for her glasses, a pair specially made for mirrors that enable her to actually being able to read the addresses.
Finally, the pair at the bridge of her nose, she glances in the mirror and nods, satisfied. She likes looking smart; there is no excuse dressing like a barbarian, even in the wasteland.

She sets out into the wasteland, a howl wrenching its way out of her throat as she calls out to her canine and avian friends. In this barren scar of the world, Shabanza is content.
