"I worry for that one," her mother said, watching the dragon perched on the edge of the nest.

"Why is that, my love?" her mate rumbled, lifting his head from where he lay, sharing warmth with his son, "She is lovely - a little blush rose."

"It is not her coloring," the mother said softly, wincing as her youngest daughter fell, nose first, off the edge of the nest and thumped on the ground below.

"That is only youth," her mate said, nudging her a little, "She will be as graceful as any clan could hope for, one day."

The small, petal-pink dragon was already up and off, pearly wings spread for balance as she walked out along a dead-fall one of the others had dragged back to the nest. She made a few steps - then wobbled and crashed to the earth.

Her mother tensed, but there came an instant, cheerful chirp from the tangle of legs and wings, and her daughter was soon up and off again.

"She is only young," her father repeated when his mate shot him a look, "Full of energy, that is all. She is too excited to take care."

"Perhaps you are right," she sighed, then winced when, further into the den, there came a loud crash, a tinkle, and the dismayed shriek of another dragon.

The father sighed and laid his head back down.

"I worry for that one," her mother said.
