Biography

ƜαтєяfαƖƖ αηɗ Sυяf
-The Goddess and the Tundra-

Once there was a young water goddess. She was beautiful and gentle in spirit, dutifully protecting the waterfall and lagoon she called home. The young coatl enjoyed the fruits of the land and the company of the small creatures who dwelt there, and yet she was lonely for a companion. Though a few dragons came to drink and swim in her waters, the goddess named Surf was not permitted to interact with any of them. And so she watched the dragons from afar, only interfering should they pose a threat to her land.

One day a young tundra came for a swim on her territory. He was older than Surf, yet his thirst for adventure brought him far from home. The coatl watched him, enthralled from her hiding spot in the depths of the lagoon. There was something about him that was different from the other dragons. Perhaps it was the fact that he pushed himself further than any other dragon had, exploring the deeper waters of the pool. She could have sworn he even smiled at her from her hiding spot, before returning to the surface and to dry land.

The male named Waterfall returned every day afterwards, awaiting another glimpse of the lovely female he had seen in the shadows of the pool. In spite of her duties, Surf’s curiosity got the better of her as she approached the strange tundra. From that day on an odd bond formed between the two, for they were attracted in spite of their status, finding healing and companionship in each other.

Yet when Waterfall asked Surf to be his mate, the goddess sadly turned away from him, explaining that as a deity she was not allowed to pair herself with a common mortal. The only way she could become his mate was if he proved himself worthy to the other gods. To do so, he would have to swim to the deepest part of the lagoon and speak his desire into the still waters. Should the gods deem him brave and pure of heart, they may grant his desire and make him worthy as the goddess’s mate. If not, then Waterfall would surely perish, for it was impossible to make it back to the surface in time.

In spite of the risk, the male agreed to the task out of his love for Surf. The coatl agreed to lead him to the pool’s abyss, but warned Waterfall that she would have to leave him as the gods required he complete the task alone. Though all of his swimming had endured the tundra for the trek to the bottom of the lake, he was already strained by the time the female wished him luck. He waited and he waited, hoping the gods would grant his request. Though his vision clouded and his body grew weak, he did not attempt to break for the surface for his love and desire were strong. Even as he lost all consciousness, Waterfall’s last thoughts were on the young goddess, hoping his demise would not hurt her for long.

When the male awoke, he was astonished to find himself on the lake’s shore, Surf smiling down upon him. Waterfall’s mission had been successful. No longer was he a tundra with a long and burdensome coat, but a brilliant coatl worthy of his new mate. And the two were destined to live happily ever after.
