Arelle was originally the leader of a renowned assassin's guild. She was originally sold to the guild at a very young age by her parents. This is a bit of a sore spot for her so it's best not to bring it up. She was raised by the guild where she studied and trained to be an assassin. She struggled at first, finding certain aspects of the lifestyle difficult but she excelled at what she did. She worked her way up through the guild and eventually became Master Assassin.

The guild was always at odds though with a guild of mages. These mages called their guild Lumos. Both guilds were seeking certain strong and powerful artifacts for their own reasons. The assassins wanted to destroy these artifacts, believing them to be too dangerous. The Lumos Guild wanted to study them, learn from them and use the abilities to bring peace to the world. Arelle though despite the goals of the guild didn't really want to destroy them, not all of them at least. She could see benefits in saving some of the artifacts.

Countless times Assassins had been sent out to take care of the Lumos Leader but each time they failed. The returning assassins were never harmed really in any way. They'd simply say that they had been caught or prevented from their goal. Finally Arelle had heard enough of these failures and set out to get the job done herself. When she met the Archmage he seemed to be waiting for her. She was frustrated by this but the mage had set a trap, keeping them together in close proximity, forcing her to hear him out. Eventually they came to some kind of agreement and she was released.

She went back to her guild and announced that the two guilds would be merging. She and the Archmage would both lead this joint guild of assassins and mages. Several of the assassins were angered by this and left, disbanding the guild but others that had interacted with the mages stayed, agreeing that it was a good idea.
