Elderly, but still lithe and sturdy, a Wildclaw tends the garden at the edge of Chiaroscuro's territory. Between a gently flowing river and an ancient, overgrown, ruined wall, flora flourishes. All things live and all things die- that is the most important lesson the Gladekeeper ever taught her children. But not without something in turn. Something to help the garden keep growing. So preoccupied with her work, she barely notices what goes on around her. Or perhaps, she wishes to pretend otherwise. It's hard to get a read on a dragon half overtaken with foliage and covered in vines, after all. History - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ྿ She had a loving mate and a loving heir, but those are gone. Her mate still lives, but he is not what he used to be. She keeps away from him for the most part. He was lost to her long ago, but she keeps going because she knows no different. She misses the warmth of the Labyrinth and the gloom of the Woods; she never did adapt to the chill of the Icefields. She was stuck in a home that was no longer her own. Purslane managed to leave her old clan during a harsh storm in the southern ice fields, but none of her plants survived her journey. She journeyed through the Ashfall Waste and the Shifting Expanse intending to return to her homeland. She never stopped to rest and moved in a constant state of unease, finding no plants or friendly dragons anywhere she went. When she made it to the Sunbeam Ruins she met Feros, who was looking for fertile soil for his own purposes. The two spoke and quickly became friends, and Feros offered her a place to rest back in his clan. Purslane agreed, and after a few days of rest decided to stay with this new clan for the time being. She still yearned to return home, but foud the location of her new clan to be plenty suitable in rebuilding her garden. A messenger, a Pearlcatcher with scales the color of the late morning sky, visited Purslane one day. She carried a message from a long-lost daughter. "Come to Clan Chiaroscuro and stay with me, mum! You can plant a new garden in the sun by the river." Now Purslane lives at the edge of the Hewn City, regrowing her garden, supplying a young clan with fresh flowers, vegetables, and years of hard-earned wisdom. Though still primarily a horticulturalist, she carries a new title: the Sage of Chiaroscuro. |
