___________
As a hatchling Dakota lost himself from his parents on a trip to the shadow region. He found a hatchling, Asher, floating in a box down a river. He was afraid of tricks at first, but when he realised this was simply a lost/abandoned etc hatchling, who didn't know how to speak, he decided to take him. They spent a couple days wandering, struggling with food, but at least Asher learnt quickly. While needing Dakota to protect and teach him, Asher proved to be a good thief and helped save themselves from hunger.
They eventually made a clan with Itzel and a few faes she came to give charity to. Dakota believed the lie Itzel told, that he wasn't lost but abandoned. He wasn't aware she said this only so he could stay and protect the faes.
But he began to wonder and be suspicious as Itzel acted funny in certain occasions, when her guilt of taking advantage of them began to set in. He also stepped down as leader when his and Itzel's child, Toril, could take the role instead (due to never wanting the role in the first place, and because of suspicions). Asher also stepped down as leader, because they do everything together.
He refrains from clan activities as much as possible and spends time with Asher, and they remain respected elders that other dragons seek advice from or have a nice chit chat from time to time. If great danger arises, Dakota would help, but prefers to leave as much to the other clan memebers as possible.
Dakota is a good boy and loves his friend Asher.

Take me back to Zemira!
One day during the summer Dakota received a letter from the scared wastedlands, it took him a few moments to figure out who could have sent it. Vaef. The letter invited him, and any guests he would like to bring, over to his and his husbands home on a "week long vacation to catch up with old friends". Dakota was more than happy to agree, packing up his things, and his son Hauku, to go and visit.
The trip itself was boring, just a quick fly above the forest and to the neighboring desert, but it was worth it to get to meet up with Vaef and Lencas. The trio, though Lencas usually had to leave for work, spent hours chatting over tea and just generally enjoying each others company.
When Dakota finally packed up his things to leave, Vaef slipped a note into his pack, along with Hauku (or else Lilith's kids may try and keep him).
Dakota didn't see the note from Vaef until he got home. The note read:
"Dear Dakota,
I'm sure you'll see this one you've arrived safely home, though I'm unsure how long it will take you to unpack. I know I must have said this a million times while you were over, but it was a great joy having you visit. Lencas and I both love your company, you're a brilliant friend.
I'll make this letter shorter than the other corespondents we tend to exchange. I would like to give you a formal invitation to visit Lencas and I whenever you feel the need, I promise I always have enough tea. I know life can get stressful sometimes so I just wanted you to be aware that if you ever need a place to run to and calm down at, our house is open to you.
Your Friend,
Vaef"
