Biography

Ash was on her Search through the Ashfall Waste when she found him. A Guardian with scales the colour of flame and wings like obsidian attempting (rather poorly) to excavate a lair in the side of a bit of rock in the Emberglow Hearth. He obviously needed a hand, so she wandered over to explain to him how he was going about it in the wrong way.

There, she found that he too had been on his Search, and decided that he would protect this lump of rock. He spouted something that was probably meant to sound poetic about it, and called it a 'tor' or something. He probably didn't know what that meant either. Ash decided he must have been trying to impress her - she kept catching him staring at her wings quite rudely.

Anyway, once she managed to get a word in edgewise around him waxing poetic about how this pile of rock stood for the Universal Dragon Condition (or something) and staring at her, Ash showed the dragon what he was doing wrong. His name was Coal, or so he claimed. She thought he might have made it up so that it'd be a match for her own name (he must have somehow guessed her's, because she hadn't introduced herself yet at that point). After that, she thought she'd better stick around to make sure he built the lair as she'd told him instead of making a magma slurry of it.

Eventually, they'd excavated enough to make a modest-sized lair. Coal stood proudly at the entrance and examined the lair, obviously pleased with himself. Ash rolled her eyes. His determination to protect the rock by himself was ridiculous, and nevermind that it wasn't even worth protecting (it was just a lump of rock). She bet he'd hide from the first Ashfall bat he saw! Well, maybe he wasn't that bad, but still. He was clearly not up to the task. Besides, if he was trying to protect his lair, who would protect him? It was obvious that Ash would need to stay to look after him, at least a little longer.
