Amini never talks about her past. Even Alisa, her best friend only knows bits and pieces. Most dragons think that Amini hatched from a lost egg. They're wrong.

She was hatched in a nest with four other siblings. They all towered over her, while she was smaller, weaker. She was the runt of that nest. Her parents loved her siblings, bigger stronger. They never cared about her. If she can't protect herself from her own family, they said and slashed their claws at her, then how could she ever survive. So small, weak, pathetic.

Amini did the only thing she could think of. She ran. When the mist was thicker than usual and her parents were teaching her siblings how to hunt, she sneaked out of the nest and took off. Her small, lithe figure helped her hide and blend with the shadows. The skydancer was now alone. Unconfined. She was free.

By day Amini tried to hunt, to fight. By night her sleep was plagued by nightmares. Sometimes she dreamt her parents found her and were really angry. Sometimes it was worse. Her parents found her and seemed proud. Said they were sorry for how they treated her. She knew better, knew they were lying. There wasn't a sorry bone in their bodies.

Learning to hunt was hard, especially for someone so young. And weak, reminded a voice inside her, but she pushed it away and tried her best to remember what she had overheard from her parents teaching her siblings. Amini crouched low and moved quietly, like a shadow in the mist. The wind carried over a scent of something that might have been a giant bug. She stalked towards it and jumped. After days of starving it was her first catch. It seemed to even taste better than anything she'd ever eaten before.

Time seemed to pass fast. After a month, or two Amini had learned how to supple herself with food. She knew the best plants, knew which ones were inedible. The skydancer was stronger. She moved together with the shadows, quietly across the grass, not making a sound. She flew like she was part of the mist surrounding her. Amini thrived in the shadows, always listening to the quiet rustle of the leaves. She lived in a cave near The Scarred Wasteland, with an entrance barely big enough for her to squeeze through. The entrance was well hidden by pines and bushes.

One day she met Alisa. A light, curious but shy Skydancer. Amini was wary of the stranger, but she listened to her story. It was unusual for an egg to be lost so far from where it came from. Herself, she was quiet about her past. She just explained that she's alone, that she hatched here and Alisa let her leave it at that.

Wary though Amini might have been, Alisa became a close friend of hers. They worked and lived together. They flew above the Tangled Wood and if Alisa heard her having nightmares a few times, she never questioned it. She just lived with it, understanding what she did from the scared words that escaped the proud skydancer's lips in the dark of night.

Amini was the one who suggested it. It started of as a joke. "We could start our own clan," she had said and they both collapsed in giggles. But the idea couldn't seem to leave the skydancer's mind. What if they really did start a clan? After a while Alisa finally caved in and agreed. They expanded the cave, made a nest. Two eggs hatched from that nest. Amini closed her eyes and shook her head. "I can't," she whispered and turned away. Alisa, little though she knew nodded and took care of the two hatchlings, while Amini busied herself with expanding the clan.

Her daughter Kokone ended up leaving for the Shadowbinder. Her son, Crueak left for a clan in the Everbloom gardens.

Amini didn't want to make the same mistakes her parents made. She never had an example of her real family should work. She couldn't do it. And maybe a part of her regretted not trying. But it was too late for that. She made new friends, dug the caves deeper, bigger, better with them. Made them spacious, better to live in. Welcomed newcomers to the clan.

Through all of it she made new friends. Her closest friend after Alisa was Mani. A blue, reagal imperial. It was with her, that Amini trained, harder than she had in a long time, to become a fighter, a warrior. Together they wiped Beastclan members of the ground and after many collapses and wounds; after lots of work and training they seemed to have perfected it. The two of them were the stronged fighters in the clan, helped those who wanted to serve the Shadowbinder learn all they had to know.

Sometimes she still retreated to the shadows and blended with the quiet mist. She looked at her clan, her family, nothing like the one she escaped from with pride shining in her eyes and her head held high.

Now she towered over the rest of them, if not necesarily in height. Her reagal stature brought her out. The bright accents and apparel adorning her body marked her. She no longer hid. Now she truly thrived with the shadows. Blending with them like never before. Going one minute from a powerful, imposing leader to a small shadow blending with everything else. To nothing but soft shadowy mist.

Amini narrowed her eyes at the blue stranger. "Who are you?" she hissed. It was hard to seem intimidating when the other Skydancer was almost two time bigger than her. She glared up at the imposter, her feathers standing on edge.

The other skydancer introduced herself as Alisa. Apparently she hatched from a Shadow egg, but not anywhere in Shadow. Amini sat before her listening to her story of long, tiring travels and searches. It was the first dragon she had really talked to in quite a long time. The shadows covered her face, while Alisa was sitting in a clearer patch of grass. Amini watched her with wary eyes, listening for anyone else around.

"What about you?" The question startled Amini more than she would ever admit. "I live alone." she said, her voice cold. "I always have." She glared at the other dragon, distrust clear in her eyes.

"Why are you here?" Amini asked her instead.

Alisa shrugged looking slightly uncomfortable, feeling the tension in the air. "I wanted to see what it was like." she looked around. "I have nowhere else to go."

Amini nodded and stood up. "Well you're here now. Find a place to rest. Or something." And she blended in to the shadows. The skydancer crouched in a tree and watched the stranger, who clearly seemed puzzled by her dissappearance. She smirked to herself and jumped to the next tree, silent as a shadow. A few jumps later she landed on the ground. Amini looked around, her ears perked up, nose detecting for scents. Finding nothing suspicious she dove in to her cave.

A few days later she saw the other skydancer again, this time she was inspecting the plants growing in the Tangled Wood. "That's poisonous." Amini told her. Alisa jumped and swirled around. "Oh, it's you." Amini whisked her tail and walked away without a word. She thought it would end there, but Alisa seemed to take it as invitation to follow her. Amini let out a sigh and pointed her tail at another bush. "Try that one." She suggested and rose in to the mist.

The next time it was Alisa that found her. Amini was reading in the shadows of tall pine trees when Alisa approached her again. "Hey, what are you doing." Amini let out a soft sigh.

"Reading," she muttered, not looking up from her book. After a few moments of silence she looked up to find the skydancer staring at her, head tilted to the side. She seemed to consider something before plopping herself down in front of Amini and grinning.

"So tell me, what do you like to do?" she asked her. Amini eyed her warily. She closed her book and sat up. She shrugged and answered the question: "Read I guess? I like fighting."

Alisa nodded and smiled, "You seem to know your way around." she stated.

"I do live here," Amini said, "I have to know the place."

They kept talking. Amini told her about the Tangled Wood, Alisa expanded on her travels to foreign places. They ate some food together, before Amini once more retreated to her cave with a simple "See you!" It was nice, she thought, talking to another dragon again. She went to sleep with a smile on her face.

They met the next day. And the next. They ate together and talked a lot. Neither had any family or friends, so they soon started considering eachother both family and friends.

Mani was one of the first dragons who joined the clan. She had ran the way from The Southern Icefield and stumbled upon the clan, exhausted. Amini agreed to let her stay and tend to her bruises. In return Mani helped her learn how to fight better. Together they destroyed beastclans and slashed at intruders and won countless battles in the coliseum.

They became friends and Amini had someone else she could add to her family. Mani ended up staying and helping the young leader take care of everyone and train the younger dragons.

Oyeely was someone Amini considered a friend. The snappy, rude and hyperactive spiral was often fun to talk to. He brewed potions and nearly exploded a couple of rooms, but Amini cared about him.

She liked to sit next to him and talk. He rarely offered much of a response, but it helped. He was the only dragon who knew about her parents. Later Oyeely's mate - Delian helped her too.
