Her sister was gone yet again.

She had quite the knack for disappearing, even though their parents had warned them of the dangers of the enormous, brilliant cathedral that was their birthplace. Neither of the sisters heeded the warnings very much however; the temptation to roam about this beautiful place and collect memories was far too strong, although Lustreia, being the more cautious of the two, often let her sister take the lead for their adventures.

Upon returning to their chamber after a long day of exploring, they would always be scolded by their parents, and reminded time and time again about the dangers of this place. Lustreia became more hesitant to leave each time they were scolded; Her sister, on the other hand, disregarded everything they had to say, and continued to slip out of their sights, more often than not leaving her sister behind.

Then Lustreia had found her sitting there in an empty corridor, mouth hanging open, her eyes glazed over. Something was very, very wrong. Lustreia called out to her, but there was no response. Panic started to set in. Was this what her parents had warned them about? Her heart raced as she ran to her sister, and called out to her again, still getting no response. She grabbed her sisters shoulders and began to shake her, trying to wake her from this trance she seemed to be in.

Lustreia drew a sharp breath as she slowly opened her eyes.

Gentle beams of sunlight were already shining through the castle's arched windows, and birds were singing outside. She slowly positioned herself upright on the luxurious bed, where her mate was still sound asleep next to her, buried beneath the blankets, and a smile crept upon her face.

She remembered the day she first met him along one of her patrol routes around Archalus.

He was but a mere lost traveler being robbed by bandits at the time. She had struck every one of them down to save him, and he had been in awe of her fighting prowess. He had asked her to teach him how to fight, and so she agreed; something about him resonated with her. Maybe it was because she was just like him once, a long time ago: weak, helpless, and afraid.

Lustreia's smile faded at the thought.

It had been Morrolan who had found her laying there in the mud, covered in cuts and bruises after she had ventured to try to find her way back to her birthplace. She remembered fading in and out of consciousness as the scary looking Mirror had less than gently drug her back to his clan in the pouring rain, and threw her before the king and queen.

Thankfully the king and queen had been kind enough to allow her to live in their city among their clan after hearing her story, and had even allowed her to train with their guard upon her request.

At first, her only goal had been to get strong enough to continue her journey, but as more time passed, the desire to continue searching for her birthplace grew ever further from her mind.

By now, she had made many friends, and everyone in the clan treated her as family. More importantly, she began to realize that she owed them a great debt for taking her in as a hatchling, and decided to dedicate all of her training to the purpose of protecting her new home.

Aurum groaned as he began waking up.

Lustreia smiled once more as she kissed his forehead and finished changing into her armor. Unfortunately she couldn't enjoy breakfast with him this morning like they usually did before going for their morning patrol; she had to be quick if she was going to catch the courier before he left.

She grabbed an envelope with the name "TESKA" written on the front in large letters, and quickly hurried out of the castle .
