The end of Adecia’s Search was rather anticlimactic, all things considered. Later in life she would wonder what she’d been so worried about.

Adecia was born a Wind dragon, but hadn’t actually seen her home since leaving it three years previously. As it happened, the first time she was back on the Plateau found her curled miserably at the very edge of the Reedcleft Ascent, in the rain. She was nursing a wounded… well, everything, following an ill-advised argument with a group of Plague Mirrors. All she’d wanted was directions.

Luckily, a longneck scout named Jori happened to be trekking through that same region of cliff, and offered to bind the Guardian’s injuries for her. Jori had also rather lost her way; she was meant to be finding a new place for her tribe to settle—hopefully permanently. It occurred to her that there was no reason she couldn’t accompany her large friend on the Search. It was a chance for a normally landbound creature to experience the novelty of flight and cover more ground in a day than she otherwise could in a week, and a chance for Adecia—who was really a very lonely young dragon—to have a cheerful friend to keep her company. It wasn’t long before Adecia realized that she’d found her charge.

They explored for a bit—Jori’s wanderlust was always more powerful than Adecia’s, and the dragon was happy as long as she had her little longneck—and eventually found themselves back on the Plateau, dropping in to help rebuild a little trading hub that had been damaged in a recent windstorm. It was the first time Jori had seen the plains properly, and she immediately fell in love and wanted to stay. Adecia was quietly thrilled that she could share her homeland with her favorite Interloper. They started to carve out a rudimentary cave—with a side alcove for Jori—right away.

Not long afterwards, they met Radec. He was a lone Mirror, wary and nervous, half wanting Adecia to leave him alone but desperately wanting a family again. She didn’t trust him; she didn’t have good experiences with Mirrors. But this wasn’t the vicious, half-feral mob that had almost torn her to pieces at the edge of the Strand. Radec was proud, yes, aggressive and deadly; but he almost seemed shy, pacing around just within eyesight of the den she and Jori were just beginning to carve. And when she went hunting, he would lurk nearby—leaping in to help with the kill and then standing by to let her take her fill. It only took two days for her to invite him to stay. One thing turned to another, and after a month they were warming a nest. She always thought he would eventually leave—but he never did.

As it grew from a small settlement to a Clan proper, as the lair expanded and the Longneck tribe expanded and more dragons, more Beastclans, began to be drawn to the home it promised, the intimate and familial organization needed to change. Clearer delineations of duties and even authority were established after much discussion. A Council was formed with at least one voting member of every species, so that no one people ever had the ability to dictate to the others or to make unilateral decisions that could affect the entire Reach.

All are welcome here now. Longneck Reach is one of few fully-integrated clans in Sornieth, and its founding purpose remains unchanged: A home for the lost and the frightened, a safe place for anyone, regardless of species, to respect and care for one another.

The Reach is pastoral and quiet, a place of peace and gentleness; a waystation, for those who only want to rest, and a homecoming for those who have been wandering too long. But make no mistake: There are warriors here, willing to kill and die to ensure that their clanmates are never forced to fight again.

In a little valley on the wild grassland, under Adecia's wings, the Reach lives, and breathes, and grows.
