Biography
The river of woe. The underworld might innocently be deemed a pit of never-ending angst, or an infamous chamber flowing with loathing and punishment. Furthermore, bad tongues often mislead the cloaked truth that lies behind a curtain of wrong labels. You see, the souls of those that ferried from Cocytus’s troubled waters would eventually find Acheron’s deadly silent body, and only when they slide over to him do they become cleansed. Those sins and tragedies that plagued and castigated their mortal corpses are purged so long as a single droplet from him grazes their essence. Because of this, Tartarus’s role should be redeemed and polished. There is no such evil, no such disgrace. He who accepts and selflessly cradles the long forgotten, regardless of how heavy or how painful, has taken upon himself to cure those headed to their final journey. The abysmal depths had told him to adopt said duty, after all. Acheron was not one to dispute his chances, nor was he one to… talk. Not in the least bit. That same sentimental absence and cold shoulder that he dedicated to Cocytus was the one he promised himself to hold throughout his undecided lifetime. Serene and nonchalant, the strangest out of the rest of the five rivers indeed. It had been believed once that he maybe doesn’t have a voice of his own and was forced to live his solitude in dreary silence. Matter of fact, not even his waters echo when small waves or currents trickle through his body. While chit-chat is not his forte, the river instead spends his eternity scribbling archaic poems on glistening stones floating in his crystalline waters. He’s prone to lean on those deceased that have no family or loved ones to cherish their memory, creating a new purpose and legacy to enrich their death. In that vacuum of sound that is his being, he gifts those coursing through a lukewarm tranquility and a gentle caress in his written words. A sharp sizzle, a deafened cry, emerges when his trail is woven onward to Phlegethon, cooled liquid clashing with boiling heat. The rocks that he so dearly cherished and depict uncountable stories melt and perish under this river’s vicinity, making Acheron despise him ever so passionately. Phlegethon is oblivious of the calamity that he is beckoning in the other’s reign, unaware of the bitter loathing that stings his back. The woeful river doesn’t show his spite and ire but instead seals his maw shut, reluctant to cease his rituals of cleansing and continuing to scribble letters that eventually will fade into nothingness... |
