Silent was his entry into the world and silent was the greeting he received as he emerged. Born into the world in the wake of a tragic plague that robbed this sole survivor of lineage and clan, this hatching never really understood the concept of family. He learned quickly the world was a constant clash for survival. Much of his survival through childhood was centered around observations -- watch, learn, conquer, and triumph. Among the reeds was where he grew and fended for himself, and among the reeds is where he found himself a young Imperial, recently orphaned stumbling alone. Feeling a twisted sort of kinship with this fellow orphan, he became the youth's silent guide. Quickly, the Imperial discovered that his companion uttered no sound and found a system to communicate with him. It was the Imperial who taught him the language of script, and later, structured gestures. For the first time, he had a voice. For the first time, he didn't feel like he was sinking alone. Together, the two wandered about for some time until their world was once again shifted by three other children. The other three, quickly joined his fold and the first time he found a group to not only watch, but to protect. As their merry band traveled throughout the Ascent, they encountered a stranger. An individual wreathed in shadow and blood. Naturally, they were wary, but so was she. In their dance around one another, only he noticed her worrying glances at their hungry and shallow visage. He was the first to approach, cautious but curious. Hello. What brings you to us? He writes to her, first study this strange shadow. She regards him with sharp eyes and a spark of interest. "Bold you are to approach such a stranger such as myself. What is your name, young one?" When he could not respond, she gifted him something he forever cherish. A family, a life, and a name. Ta'Zalin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He was a quick thinker. Light on his feet with a wit that rivaled the sharpest of blades. Mother saw that in him and cultivated it. She taught him the values of observation and the gifts of deception. (tba) |
