Biography

It's interesting
[11:30 PM]Scytale: I could say the same thing people smarter than me have been saying for much longer
[11:30 PM]Forssa: It is. In a really bleak way it's deeply fascinating
[11:30 PM]Scytale: But to finally see everything manifest the way it is, to finally see uncharacteristic deep freezes and abnormally green winters
[11:30 PM]Scytale: And inappropriately rising tides and relentless droughts where there shouldn't be any, it's like
[11:31 PM]Scytale: Well, guess we had it coming
]Scytale: I've been saying this for years now
Scytale: I remember when I was in highschool, the beginnings of this transition to the world we currently live in
[11:32 PM]Scytale: I remember every October rolling to a close with freezing rain and biting, chilly temperatures. By November the characteristic dread of snow was just a given part of every start to winter (edited)
[11:32 PM]Scytale: But then one year, the snow took longer to come
[11:34 PM]Scytale: I remember I'd visited Chelsea in Boston the day after Christmas. I got home after New Year's. I remember, January 2nd, getting home to wet, slushy snow and temperatures hot enough to comfortably stroll around in. I walked to Walmart relishing in it, wishing that every winter could be so comfortable
[11:34 PM]Scytale: That was in grade 11. Id have been 16 going on 17 (edited)
[11:35 PM]Scytale: By the time I was in building up - 2018 - the snow didn't show up until December. I remember being on my demo job, and it was freezing out still to be sure, but there wasn't snow. Just cold (edited)
[11:35 PM]Scytale: I laughed it off then too, thinking it was weird but weirdly lucky - no snow, right? Convenient!
[11:36 PM]Scytale: But it was around that time that the summers were becoming uncomfortably, oppressively hot (edited)
[11:37 PM]Scytale: Something clicked in my brain, but when I started talking about it offhand back then I was largely written off by those around me
[11:37 PM]Scytale: "It's always been this hot in the summer"
"Some winters it just snows less"
[11:38 PM]Scytale: The highest highs crept from the mid 20s to the early 30s
[11:38 PM]Scytale: What were once anomalies became daily temperatures; commonplace; the norm
[11:38 PM]Scytale: I walked home just now. It was hot enough for me to wear a hoodie
[11:38 PM]Scytale: It's raining outside, at the tail end of January
[11:38 PM]Scytale: In Canada
M]Scytale: If you told me that it would be warm enough to walk around in a hoodie at the end of January when I was in high school I'd have laughed, too
]Scytale: And no one listens, of course. Climate change and its consequences are inconsequential. We have to power mine the next profitable coin. We have to mint the next link to the math-solving computer. We have to drill the next oil well. It's all one stupid, pointless race to the bottom. Eagles are dropping dead mid-flight from the heat exhaustion. Siberia is being overrun with gaping holes that were once vast icefields. Anything for that extra dollar. It doesn't matter. In the dying embers of this pathetic civilization, the last worthy goal is who gets the last buck
11:49 PM]Scytale: The priciest resources are the ones tied up in blood sport
[11:50 PM]Scytale: It's always been that way
[11:50 PM]Scytale: The answer sheet was out in front of us for decades and people still chose to laugh it off because the propaganda machine is just too damn effective
[11:51 PM]Scytale: "hah!" Laughs the alt right Facebook page, "climate heating? Look how COLD it was last week!"
