Biography

Ilmarinen
Smith & Tinker
Mated to Kultamorsian, breeding card coming

Iron Ore
Toolbox
"By the furnace, by the anvil, by the tongs, and by the hammer, by the dwelling of the blacksmith, by the fire within the furnace...curses on thee cruel iron!"

A true wizard with metal either molten or cold, it has been said of Ilmarinen that he is skilled enough to craft anything from the stuff...but in return, he must forge anything asked of him, be it deadly weapon or harmless trinket. He has worked metal for so long that he feels it becoming a part of him, seeping into his skin, a process that, along with his exhaustion from working the forge day and night, leaves him in constant pain. Hatched alone from an egg abandoned in the Highland Scrub of the Shifting Expanse, Ilmarinen wandered, first crossing that desert, then the Sea of a Thousand Currents, all on his own. He never stopped to travel with a clan, instead taking company from other lone wanderers, learning metallurgic and tinkering arts from those he met along the way. He grew up a solitary vagabond, and in time came to even fear interacting with other dragons: the properties of metals make sense to him, the fickle and changing emotions of others do not.

Along the way, Ilmarinen hoped to find his Charge, as his adult Guardian drives took over. This drove him to focus his craft on making armor for a time, thinking that should his Charge turn out to be another dragon, he could make up for his lack of combat skill by protecting them with his hammered steel. After his journey finally carried him to the Windswept Plateau, he found himself so exhausted from his quest that he could not go further. Wary of the bright and merry clans of the Windsinger and their strange ways, Ilmarinen did not trust that any of them would take them in simply out of kindness, shaped as he was by his hard days on the road. He kept to the shadows until he found a clan without a smith of their own - Coldwind Clan - and offered them his services as a craftsman in exchange for shelter. Of course, while he never would have believed it, they would have taken him in regardless of his skill.

Ilmarinen spent his days forging and repairing armor for the battle squad, at the behest of General Trarran. He also smelted metals and makes small parts and components for Wenceslas the toy-maker and Primina the jeweler. Beyond his business relationship with these dragons, he kept to himself, staying close to his forge and rarely braving clan events. When Trarran betrayed the Clan and aided the Dark Witch Karevik in her rise to power, Ilmarinen kept his head down and kept forging weapons and armor, and he carries the shame of his complicity with their evil to this day, but it kept him from the same prison other Clain luminaries landed in, or from exile. When he could he used his freedom to smuggle supplies and other comforts to the prisoners. Before the final battle between Sina and her tormentors, Ilmarinen revealed his true loyalties, arming her and FinnBalor for the fight.

Shortly before the fall, Ilmarinen had taken to working in his spare time on a life-sized Spiral dragon female, made of gold and electrum, a shining and beautiful statue. He poured every ounce of his being into the creation, and fell into a frustrated love with the cold, unyielding metal. When the Surprise crashed in battle, his Forge lay in ruins. But when Karevik fell and the echo of magic crashed over the wreckage, Ilmarinen's beloved statue came to life as a living, breathing Spiral dragon. She had full memories of his careful and loving hands shaping her into being, and she loved him as much as he loved her. He named her Kultamorsian, his golden bride, and together they rebuilt the forge.

These days, Ilmarinen forges whatever Coldwind Coven asks of him, be it tools for their magical Craft or pretty trinkets. However, he will only forge items of war at Sina's demand, having sworn them off entirely otherwise. He is a jovial and loving father to his and Kultamorsian's children, but still shy and reclusive towards others in the Coven, and lets his bride do the talking for him most of the time.
