There is a great rift between Aillie and her mother Artemis. Aillie sees her as trapped, a creature to be pitied. She has a burning anger in her against the life her mother leads. When she came to her with a plan to escape her life of slavery and her mother rejected her outright, Aillie felt deeply wounded and confused, not understanding how someone could choose such an existence.

So she fled. Unsure of where to go, she traveled to the only place she had ever heard of, the lair of Sylvain's mate, Osiris. She is determined to live a free life and prove to the world that she knows the right way to be, and every success she achieves she hopes will dull the ache in her chest.
