Biography
Epiksol
In honor of the goddess of souls. :P
“Hi! Can I help you?”
Some benevolent souls aren’t caught by the Soul Keeper. They stay as the guardians of the clans they died in, bearing no ill will to their clanmates.
Epiksol was a curious hatchling, a traveler at heart. After having a pleasant, comfortable life in her birth clan, her wandering instincts swept her up and she decided to separate from her brother and her parents as she sought to explore the world.
The first lair that would take her in was a Earth clan. It turned out to be the last clan she would ever stay in.
Though there were few that lived in the clan, they all acted like family to one another, making her feel right at home. For many months she lived happily, even when they asked her to work in the mines with all of them. They shared their stories and watched the stars together. Swama helped her use her light and her healing abilities. Tigereye taught her how to polish gemstones and cut them. Alfried filled her mind with songs that stuck in her head that she sang while working. Cancani was a fellow worker who she found comfort in talking to. Mireviolet was her guide, telling her about the hidden gems in the Earth flight, while Terrafirma was her fighting instructor.
Then one day there was a cave in. Epiksol was planning to leave the Earth Flight the next day. She did- just not in the way she imagined. With only the memories of her past life she watched as the members of her adoptive clan mourned her. She followed them as they led the way back to the Clan of Souls. Her parents scattered her ashes on the wind, but she still didn’t remember her death. And then she met Huw.
How are you feeling?
I’m okay. But I barely remember anything…
Ha. It was like that for me for a while. I’ve been around so long now, I’ve barely remembered my own name all these years.
…
Who are you?
I’m Huw. The Soul Keeper.
We’ve never met, though I remember living in this clan for a while.
Oh yes. Everyone has come in contact with me at one point or another. The unofficial leader here is Enid. She’s called the Soul Keeper- but she’s just the one bonded to me.
She seems cool! And you do too. Why haven’t I seen you before if we’ve met, then?
Because I’m dead.
It was at that moment Epiksol remembered more. She remembered the cave in.
But she didn’t realize it had been her grave.
