Long-exalted Mysterion returns, warped by aracne energies. Is he still the same dragon he was before he left to seek something forbidden?
He was weak, he wasn't interested in fighting. He wanted to help her, though. Perhaps the winds might speak of a way to gain legendary strength? Perhaps old scrolls, found stashed inside an old messenger's travel bag might have useful information? Mysterion was soft-spoken and the way he slithered in the air was almost ethereal. Elegy grew oddly fond of the Spiral, letting him become an occasional distraction. His windy ways kept her grounded, though she never lost sight of the most important thing for her: power.
After a while, after a clutch of hatchlings who all had the colours of rotten leaves, after the Flamecaller claimed each of them, Mysterion grew distant. It wasn't the hatchlings, though. Elegy knew. He had seen something in one of those scrolls. The only one he wouldn't let her read. His claws curled around the yellowed parchment as he snaked through the window and looked at her for what they both thought to be the last time.
"I have to go."

Years later, Elegy jolts up in the middle of the night. Someone is at the window.
Pale, almost clear white eyes. Wings cluttered with spots that speak of illness. Still, she recognizes him. He looks through her and whispers, voice raspy and devoid of his usual softness:
"It was a mistake."
