Biography
|
A dragon so young should not be enveloped in legend, but Praxias has not been granted the kindest lot in life, and her tale has spread rapidly. Most dragons her age would not even be squires, let alone full-fledged knights. It typically takes years of training and devotion to the kingdom of Nachtischluft to achieve such a rank, if one does not die in the process. But Praxias's road to knighthood was unconventional, not to mention accidental. According to most sources (but never to Praxias herself; she rarely speaks about her past), she grew up alone, fending for herself in the far reaches of the kingdom where there was no one to help her. She carved a place for herself in the world, surviving against all odds, and along the way, there was a Goldenplains Poodle Mith at her side. No one knows the Mith's name, but Praxias became the Mith Maiden, known for battling with the help of her companion at all times. Their unusual alliance and astounding survival made them well known in local lands, so known that they were sometimes asked to deal with local crime. But Praxias's legend comes not from the rise. The fall is the source of her fame, a deathly shadow over the remainder of her life. What began as a simple request to help a village on the kingdom's outskirts turned into a trap. Enemies crossed the borders, armed to the teeth, and even with the villagers at hand to support her, Praxias could not hope to emerge victorious from such a clash. The numbers were against her in all ways, and at the end of the day, it was a miracle she survived, and that the village sustained little more damage than a few burnt buildings. Her partner, though, was never seen again after that. In the years since, Praxias has joined the royal guard and been promoted to the Second Squadron, under the close care of Meltarte. It's the best she could ask for, since she has spent most of her life upholding justice, and it allows her to make use of her incredible skills with a rapier. But she remains visibly lonely, often drifting through the city where she is stationed, completely silent and detached. She rarely speaks to anyone but her squadron, and there is a palpable gloom over her that has shaped itself into a wall of sorts, one that keeps others far away. If that gloom isn't enough, though, she is not above sneaking away; her stealthy nature has kept her alive for a very long time, and if it allows her to seek peace and solitude, so be it. Only those around Praxias when she is stationed near the kingdom's largest cemetery understand the depth of her sorrow. There is a grave there, one so small it does not seem to belong among the graves of dragons, and in the evenings, she sits beside it. She says nothing, but it is clear her heart lies there, buried deep in the earth. At that grave, the Mith Maiden weeps. Bio by Tues. |
