Baldwin, the senile Pearlcatcher that somehow became a Bogsneak, likes to tell everyone that alchemy is an art, not a science. That, Noran thought, was all the explanation one could've needed as to the reason why he became a Bogsneak in the first place.

Leave science to idiots, and they will only hurt themselves.

Alchemy was a science, and Noran knew it well. Everything required precision: of course the silly dragons who listened to the old man had purely random results when transmutating. Everything required measurements, technique, precision, following the instructions to the letter. If any of them ever opened an alchemy book, they would find out; then again, she supposed it was good those kind of dragons weren't getting anywhere near a proper formula, Gladekeeper knows what they would've managed to blow up.

Considering all the idiots in the world, Noran was ready to compensate by offering her help and expertise. One just needed will, a recipe, and discipline to master the science of Alchemy. And with a simple cauldron and a bunch of unwanted junk, a master like her can transmute anything. The possibilities are endless, but as with every knowledge field, Noran and the other alchemists will try their hardest to discover the most they can.
