With another day going by fast, just as Argos flew, there was no telling what he could achieve once he finished beating his personal goal. Every day while Argos was delivering messages to and fro, the challenge would increase bit by bit. He had to be faster, and while he was certainly the fastest mail deliverer, what better way to improve than beating yourself? Now, he only asked this out of a small contempt for the lack of competition. No one in his clan would fly beside him anymore, being sick of the constant defeat and then prideful boasting. Argos was singled out, except by a kind dragoness Argos couldn’t place a name to; he’d shrugged her off because she only wanted to take pity on him, and Argos could not handle a tear in his pride. Better to be your own friend than to doubt the loyalty of others.

Suddenly, Argos dived down into a cloud. Who could it have been to fly in front of Argos? His interest peaked faster than his wings could ever move. He circled above, hovering here and there, but to no prevail. Argos couldn’t just stall there all day, he had a record to beat, even if it was a self-imposed sense of validation. However, the memory irked him as he finished his route, still making it under time mind you. Argos had developed a plan; if the ambusher pulled a fast one on Argos, why wouldn’t they do the same to other mail carries in the same area? Argos lurked in clouds in the region he knew his co-worker would be employed.

Much to his delight, he caught a glimpse of this imposer, a midnight fae of the shadow clan who was known to pull pranks. Angered, Argos wanted this hoodlum out of his clan. He pursed in a quiet chase, following the shadow dragon by detecting the blinking stars in the night sky. It was a good thing Argos knew the area well, but he was slowly slipping out of his home without notice. He was stuck on his wounded pride. Little did our messenger know, this was exactly as the fae had hoped for.

Argos was frustrated as the fae dove into the Tangled Wood as he was much too broad to fly quickly between the try as the fae had. Though it provided with an advantage, the glowing mushrooms made it much easier to track the fae, but Argos did not realize this meant the fae could see him too. With a sudden burst energy and soundless wind, Argos was trapped underneath countless thorns known to grow in the area. He gasped with an involuntary cry, not because he felt pain but because of the members of his clan surrounding him.

After teases and laughs about his gullibility and pride, his thought to be friends turned on him. They’d hired a shadow child to arrange his demise, but only to his ego. Apparently, Argos’ taunts had affected them more than they would have liked. Argos sulked in the prison of his reputation, but only grew worried for the correct reason when his clan left him there to see if he could save himself from his own consequence. However, someone had stayed behind. The nameless dragoness.

She lifted her claw and with a single slash, powered through enough vines for Argos to fall through. He thanked her for her kindness, but she only offered a tired smile. This was a worse punishment for Argos than the prison. With that look he knew the only dragon who cared about him had known he’d forgotten her name, her identity. He shamed himself for pushing her out of his mind. “Shugra.” No other words were needed, excepting an apologize from Argos. He made a new record for himself; to remember a name a day, and a pair of kind eyes.
