It is unknown what Iris really is. She could be a dragon with plant-life slowly taking over her body, or she could be a mass of charred and twisted plant-life trying to pass as a dragon.
Whatever Iris is, she seems to be benevolent and will appear briefly and randomly, leaving small trinkets as gifts for the clan; leaving her be to her own affairs.
