R E L A T I O N S H I P S Locket - Charge and mate Peacefully comfortable, discreetly affectionate, aside from the occasional cold shoulder. Fussed over a bit much, perhaps. Key - Daughter Close. Allowed ample independence, but he can't help feeling stern fatherly concern occasionally. Rifte - Adopted daughter Somewhat of a wayward child, still regarded with affection. He's always been a little overindulgent towards her. Slilk - Friend, former teammate Befriended in youth, and maintained correspondents. Still mothered profusely, despite having long left the battlefield. O C C U P A T I O N~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Hoard Guardian Presumed Patriarch Frigid Floes Postmaster A sturdy wall of muscle, softened beneath furs and scarves and an ancient but well-loved cap. The occasional scar hints at a previous, more action-oriented life on the move, but it's difficult to imagine him on a battlefield; it's the warm twinkle of his eyes and steady rumble of his voice, the way his rosy spines have been deliberately filed down to less dangerous points. Doesn't need all the apparel to stay warm, but he finds them comfortable and has a habit of picking at the stitches and soft fabric when stressed. The satchel, of course, is full of various odds-and-ends, from emergency bandages to snacks to a spare woolly sweater. (He is well used to carrying a heavy load.) - - - Locket's second-in-command. He manages all the aspects of leadership that she dislikes - the social side, mostly, such as dealing with letters and complaints and reports from their clanmates. It's not a task that he dreads (he truly is interested in how they are all getting along), but trying to manage a clan as spread out and varied as theirs takes its toll. His secondary role as the resident heavy-lifter is a welcome reprieve from it (and good exercise too), though his personal investment in sorting out the Hoard is far outmatched by his mate's. How Locket finds it so ceaselessly engaging is a mystery to him, but one he's learned to accept (and even find endearing) in their time together. It helps that they've settled down in a fixed location - the various useless trinkets included in her endless list of things to hoard are much less of a bother when he doesn't have to lug them around for her. Of gentler disposition than his mate, Wicket was the one who wanted to adopt Rifte as their own, for the same reason that they had and kept Key afterwards. His loyalty is first and foremost to his Charge (and, by extension, her Hoard), but family is a close second, and that network is one he's rather prone to expanding if given the opportunity. It is probably a good thing that these opportunities are relatively scarce in the Floes, because otherwise he might just end up with a ridiculously extended set of honorary relatives, and his attentions are split enough as is. For now, letters and the periodic courier visit provide him with just the right amount of outside interaction. His trunkers are constant companions, and for good reason. They're placid, well-mannered creatures, very useful in the Hoard and aiding the transportation of their stock. Doesn't hurt that they're excellent listeners and cuddlers either, for the days when Wicket's just feeling drained from it all. |
