to wander, journey, go

As you approach this dragon you take note of the color gradient on his wings. You had never seen anything quite like it. At first, you wonder if it's paint, but as you get closer you see it is actually scales threaded and woven together tightly to create the appearance of a second skin. This dragon also wears silk, light blue in color. Altogether, the dragon looks regal.

You begin to chat with him, and you ask what he does in the clan. He tells you that he creates body masks and clothing items for the clan and to sell. As he tells you of his craft, you can see the silk shimmer and in the light it almost looks iridescent. You ask him if he made what he wears, and he replies that he did. You ask if his parents taught him how, to which he replies that he had no parents.

You must make a face of confusion, because he explains.

"Like the monarch of the clan, I do not come from a pair of dragons. I did not come from a nest, or a clan. You see, myself, Migraine, Tapio, and many others in the clan, Icefields, and world, are accidents in a way. We hatch from eggs that weren't intended to be created."

You ask if perhaps his nest was just abandoned, after all, not every mated pair can be expected to want to care for hatchlings.

"No," he replies, "My "parent" is the Icewarden himself. You see, when the deities use their power, whether that be in a battle, or to control the weather, or to move quickly, they use more magic than they need as a sort of safety net. Sometimes, that magic escapes. It can take form as an ice crystal here in the Southern Icefields, or could give life to a struggling clan or plant, or sometimes, can create life itself. And that's what I am. A bit of escaped magic from the Icewarden that just so happened to form into an egg."

That was a lot to take in. You wonder how often that happens, if it happens in every realm, and how often the hatchlings survive.

Arach answers. "It's not that common, but it's not that uncommon either. Some clans don't have any members that come from "Cleft Eggs," and some are made up entirely of dragons like me. And yes, they can happen in any realm that a deity controls. In many cases the hatchlings don't survive, though that can depend on where the egg hatches. For instance, a hatchling that hatches here has less of a chance to survive, than say, a hatchling that hatches in the realm of Wind. I was lucky to be taken in so quickly after hatching."
