Alessa Bloodwing

Once, she was a queen. The ruler of all that happened in Eregrast. Now she is a guardian torn between failure and protecting her charge.
The older dragons remember what it was like under her rule. Strict, but just. Distant, but caring. As long as they were productive, there was free rein on nearly everything else. There was no worry over safety; the great guardian could, and would, protect them from any physical threat.
But after the Scourge, that all changed. Half the clan had perished over a month of misery, including her only surviving daughter. Watching so many of her friends, family, deteriorating into babbling madness as their bodies failed broke the mighty guardian. Despite the clan itself not being her official charge, inhabiting the cavern that was made them a part of it.
She gave up command to grieve. Her successor had all the skills needed to run Eregrast and it's extensive mine system without both the strength and the weakness of being Chargebound. And just because she's retired, doesn't mean she doesn't listen. She still knows everything that goes on, and will protect her clan until her last breath.

Alessa was born with a purpose. With the Stormcatcher's blessing, she started her search barely out of the shell. It took her from the Tempest Spires to a cliff face on the edges of the Carrion Canyon. Amid the cacti and sand she found a small cave that lead to a much larger cavern that she claimed as her charge. She spent the next couple weeks carving the cave into a much larger entrance that would fit even the largest Imperial. A heavy windstorm blew in her first guest, a small fae named Emrys. They found themselves to be kindred souls and soon became mates and overlords of what became Clan Kaimelar. Most of their children were sent to work for the Stormcatcher except for one daughter, a stoic young guardian with her mother's red wings, Khian.

Alessa values loyalty above all else. If she accepts a dragon into her clan, she expects them to stay for life. If they wish to leave, she has no problem with that but they will not be allowed back. There is only one exception to this rule, a green-eyed guardian that goes by Khyriana. No one fully understands why, and neither dragon is willing to explain it. Every dragon that calls Eregrast home is under her protection and she can be downright vicious to protect them. Emrys often has to mediate any time there are any foreign dragons around.
