During the third time of the Twilight Clan experiencing the Night of the Nocturne, Hinata & Kazuto were sent out to gather food late at night for a party to celebrate the other Nocturnes living in the clan. Something that Shoushi was rather upset to have to do as he had desired to keep the clan together to avoid anyone bringing home any more eggs since he despised the thought of the clan growing, preferring to stay alone but secretly enjoying the company of a few certain dragons within the clan. Naturally, Hinata did exactly what Shoushi had feared when he sent them out and found a pair of eggs nestled together, left abandoned in the night. When they noticed one of the eggs was cracked, they rushed them both back to their lair to have it taken care of to ensure the baby inside was still healthy.

While most of the focus went toward the baby they feared for, the other, healthy egg hatched before the night came to an end to give birth to a baby girl. Hinata named her Kareru due to the color of her eyes. While she waited for her brother to be born, Mizuho took duty of looking after her as Hinata was occupied with caring for the egg that had yet to hatch.

Over time, it was discovered that Kareru had powers to match her eyes. As a baby, she would often breathe out a small cloud of rather toxic smoke. Plants would shrivel and die upon contact with it and smaller creatures could die as well if they breathed it in. The other dragons in the clan would get sick for a few days if they caught a whiff of the gas, but overall would be fine since she was only a baby. They believed that as she got older, it would likely get more powerful and prove a threat. They debated how to handle this, but before they could come up with a good idea, Shoushi volunteered to take the young girl under his wing and train her, an evil idea coming to mind of the destructive force he'd aimed for Hinata to be. The others were rather suspicious of his sudden interest in the child to which Higure said she'd keep watch to ensure nothing bad happened.

When the other egg finally hatched, Kareru was overjoyed to see her brother who was named Koso, and even though the two looked nothing alike, they always believed and were treated as twins since they were found together. When his own inner darkness emerged, Higure had to shift focus to helping him handle it. Soundwave then took responsibility to look after Kareru, spying on Shoushi's time with her to ensure she turned out alright. With everyone's guidance, Shoushi's influence allowed her to grow up to a kind young woman who cared after her brother and did everything she could to protect him. Kareru got a handle over her powers and only used them if the situation seriously called for it. Since she had been raised by Shoushi, she became one of few in the clan trusted with the task of gathering food since Shoushi was very particular about the kind of meat that was hunted and only trusted himself and the two children he raised to do a good job in fetching and preparing it correctly.
