Biography

Demon - Romantic - Bad Influence

When Echidna first summoned Risk into our plane, all she knew was that Risk was a demon. Echidna didn't really have any ideas on what she wanted to summon a demon for, specifically. She didn't want the power to rule the world or someone to strike down her enemies. She just saw a ritual to summon a demon and the temptation to try it was too great to resist.

Most would say this is why the ritual ended up summoning Risk, a demon who specializes in focusing temptation. Anyone with a will to do something devilish, but without the creativity to come up with a good sin, can expect Risk to appear at their side with a suggestion or six. She is an excellent corrupter, a magnificent muse of malevolence. She always knows what suggestions a faltering heart will jump at, whether that's sneaking out past curfew or casual regicide.

Her main service for Echidna, who still holds one end of the chain which binds her to this plane, is as a trainer for the House's young seeking to Exalt. Risk's fierceness and immortality make her a perfect companion for Echidna when they take the young of the House to the wild Mires for training. While she feels more kinship with the Plaguebringer, she enjoys sending the innocent young of the House towards the path of the Arcanist. She knows the pursuit of forbidden knowledge is one of mortal kind's oldest and proudest sins, and she has little doubt that many of the young magicians have a fair share of heresy in their hearts. She's tasked with making her charges strong, and she's more than happy to teach them her particular brand of diabolical strength.

Risk seems to take nothing seriously. She's lacks empathy for almost all of her Housemate's fears and miseries, and relentlessly gossips about everyone behind their backs. She's almost always found laughing, either with or at those around her. Everything from time, to death, to money is just a game to her. ("She" even uses female pronouns only as a sort of joke, as she finds the gender binary a hilarious foreign concept.)

The only mortal affectation she takes seriously is that of "love." She is absolutely enamored by the concept of love, devouring romance novels as if they were sacred texts. In this she reveres Echidna as her true superior, as Echidna and Edgar's marriage appears to her to be the ideal mortal marriage. Determined to have a romance novel-worthy relationship of her own, Risk decided there was nothing to do except summon an angel to be her mate. (Every book she read clearly indicated that the "forbidden love" between a demon and an angel would be the most entertaining form of courtship.)

Luckily for her, the summoned angel, Throne, was more than eager to play the part of supernatural suitor. The two of them are almost inseparable when they are both at home, delighting each other with tales of mortal eccentricity and cosmological inside jokes. They love acting out romantic comedy cliches and traditional relationship milestones in some kind of strange long-term role play of a relationship. It's not unusual to see Risk proclaiming loudly, "Throne! I see you've noticed the beauty of another 'female' dragon. I am personally offended by this and wish to see you sleep on the couch in penance for your filthy eyes," only to burst out laughing a few minutes later and let Throne take a turn yelling the same line at her.

Most of the young dragons Risk trains are interchangeable in her eyes, and she usually doesn't even bother to learn their names unless there's gossip to be had about them. The only exception is the hatchlings produced by her and Throne (through means that seem...unconventional, at best.) She is very fond of these hatchlings, even though very few of them are born as anything other than mortal dragons. She insists no other member of the House is allowed to discipline her children, and she makes sure to teach them all the most dangerous best magic tricks she knows.

However, even her parenting has a kind of off-putting sense of mimicry to it. Her children are treated to "birthday parties" at sporadic intervals, sometimes multiple times per week. She will sometimes assign them chores only to get confused when they actually attempt to do them. She has a mug that says "World's Best Mom" that Echidna breaks every time she sees it, only for it to reappear intact in the cupboard the next day.
