Biography
Hallow The Impersonator |
Landing was hard.
Finding a way to blend in, to find a way to get and stay hidden, was harder.
Hallow doesn't know how old he is or how long he spent wandering the cosmos, from system to system, before he went too close and was caught in the gravitational pull of a planet. All he was wanting to do was slingshot around the planet to continue his exploring, but just a few degrees wrong on his angle and he was dragged down.
Crystallized bones, malachite and emerald and missing sections filled in by condensed energy, struggled to hold a form after the impact on the surface. He's never been... physical, before this. Never needed to possess a body but he can't figure out how to move until he does.
Shimmering orange wings spread out beside his new, long body. Feathers slip over grass and the sensation is foreign to him. He crawls, hooking his claws into soil and dragging himself along until he finds a place sheltered from the outside.
For weeks, Hallow hid in the shadows. Waiting, watching, observing.
When he emerges he's able to hold his form together without his bones falling apart under him. It takes a while before Hallow finds signs of life larger than the creatures that avoid his path. He finds other dragons.
He's confused and shocked to see others with segmented wings like him. With patterns of stars and swirls on their hides like him. Only... solid. Hallow looks at his arms and watches as his 'skin' fades to show his bones and solidifies in patterns he can't control. He listens to their languages and doesn't understand the sounds they make.
Eventually he finds serpentine, feathered dragons that look like him. Hallow tries to mimic their voices but he can't reach their tones. The deeper, haunting vibrations of his voice carry a melody incomparable to theirs.
Eventually, Hallow learns their languages even if he has to struggle to communicate. The first time he tries to make contact, the dragons he appears to scream and take flight, one claiming something about a ghost.
Oh well, Hallow shrugs. He can be a ghost.
He spends his time learning from a distance until his curiosity becomes too much. At first he wants to see what happens if he moves something while a dragon isn't paying attention. Slim hands created by his energy reach forward to accomplish this task. The result is mild confusion and slowly rising terror as Hallow keeps at it, until the dragon grabs a few things and scrambles away in fear.
Hallow decides he likes that, slithering down to investigate the abandoned equipment. He pockets a few things and moves on his way.
Off to find a new creature to study.
The night Calanth makes his final call, Hallow is awoken from his rest by a disturbance. It feels like a vibration through the ground. It rattles his bones enough that there's no way he could ignore it. It points him in a direction, makes him begin walking towards it before he hears a voice in his head-
"Please, prove to me that there's something out there. I need to know."
"Will you guide me?"
Two voices? But the same voice, twice from different people. It's followed by a sense of joy and an equal amount of confusion. Hallow narrows his eyes. The latter voice resonated like his own.
Hallow looks up at the night sky where a distant storm is dying. It seems like, after so long wandering, he has somewhere to go.
The ghost of a coatl spreads his shimmering wings and takes flight.
"Be wary of what you bring, Caller."
Calanth: Refers to him as Caller more than his name since that's how he found him. Curious about his practices, Hallow hangs around and disrupts his work with his fellow specter.
Andromeda: She's the more curious of the two, Hallow is just glad there's at least one more creature like him.
