Biography
Vatra
| Vatra was found as an egg during the Night of the Nocturne celebration. Jesen wanted to raise her as her own, but when the egg hatched, Jesen realized that it may be impossible. The young nocturne had plague eyes. There was no way her mate, the leader of a cult to the Gladekeeper, would allow the goddess' sister to infiltrate her ranks. But no one else could take care of the tiny hatchling. The forest was gripped in winter. So Jesen lied, to her mate and her hatchling. She was born without eyes. She covered the hatchling's face and raised her to love the Gladekeeper, praying no one would look beneath her mask. |
| Vatra grew up in the cult, displaying a clear voice for song. As soon as she was old enough, she was promoted to part of the choir, to sing praises to the mother of nature, who nourished each of them. And the leader of the cult never saw his adopted daughter's eyes. And Vatra never saw her father, though she caught glimpses of her mother when the dragoness retied the sash covering her eyes. And Vatra settled into her life, loving the Gladekeeper as much as any nature dragon, and praying that someday she'd get to see all that the goddess had created for herself. |

| Deep down, Vatra knew something was wrong. Her magic did not create any flowers. She caused diseases and death to bloom, instead. If she passed the hospital wing, the dragons inside would suddenly feel their illnesses grow worse. Colds would turn into flu. An infection would curdle and sour. Gembond would grow cancerous, spreading and multiplying across the afflicted dragon. Little did she know, her body was an amplifier for the plaguebringer's magic. If she could only be allowed to learn it, to control it. |
| Her constant companion is a set of animated armor. Jesen asked for it, to protect her hatchling. As the daughter of a prominent cult leader that had recently began its attack against the plague dragons, she would need someone to protect her, and prevent a vengeance killing or kidnapping. He agreed.They geld an audition for Guardians, but it was a guardian's armor that imprinted on her. While Vatra does not feel a particular fondness for the silent, clanking warrior, the two respect each other. |

| Vatra's best friend and most constant companion is another nocturne, named Ginger. Ginger is the only other dragon whom Vatra has seen with her own eyes. The two played together as hatchlings, and dated for a while as teenagers before they realized they were better off as friends and are now in a healthy, supportive friendship with each other. Ginger admires her friend's abilities to sing, while Vatra admires her friend's freedom and sight. Ginger was not part of the cult. Someday, Vatra wishes to leave as well, and live with Ginger in the bounty of Gladekeeper's gifts. Until then, she can only sing and pray like she's always done, and hope that no one looks beneath her mask. |
