Lightning mages are a rare, special sort. Most of the Shifting Expanse's brainpower is devoted to their machines, leaving most magic departments underfunded at best. The position is a vital one, though, as only the most talented of mages are able to handle the Spires without fear of being overcome by the extraordinary power levels. It takes a sharp, flexible mind and no small amount of inborn talent, but the few individuals who manage are highly prized.
Sati's parents were both powerful mages in their own right. It was clear that their lone child was something special, as even as a hatchling Sati was absolutely aglow with potential. She has a knack for amplifying any magic she comes into contact with, and in terms of channeling raw power she has few equals. However, she possesses very little finesse, and there was no one in Lightning with skills enough to teach her. She left the Expanse in search of a mentor, hoping to learn technique and control. She'll likely excel at whatever she devotes herself to, if she could only just decide.
