It's a common misconception that the key to beast-taming is strength. There's no denying that Carnassial is very strong, of course - she is tall and heavily built for a Skydancer, dwarfing her mate Condor. While this bulk comes in handy when reining in a teenage wartoad or distracted elk, it's not necessary.

In fact, Carnassial's mentor was a tiny Longneck shepherd, Ruta, on the borders of the Scarred Wasteland. Ruta had a gift for working with animals, and after Carnassial departed from her birth clan on bad terms, the two met and became close friends. When it was time to move on, Carnassial brought her knowledge of beast-taming to the Shrieking Wilds, where she quickly gained fame and notoriety.

It is not strength or dominance that allows Carnassial to handle dangerous animals, but respect. She is adept at communication and reading body language, allowing her to gain their trust over time. Carnassial is accompanied everywhere by her hainu, Shiso, except for when he joins Condor on her hunting trips.
