Log

December 23rd, 2016

It had been a long, wonderful day today in Flight Rising, and I was pretty tired, but staring at the moon outside our lair, I just couldn't sleep. There was only one cure for that, I thought: back to the late night auctions! Something told me that that was the place to be, even though leaving the lair past midnight is pretty much banned around here. >.>

Well, that never stopped me before, so out I went into the night! The late night auction was full of interesting characters lurking around, some sleepy, some looking like nighttime was just their thing, all peddling their wares and making bids.

I decided to look at the beautiful array of female Coatls, when suddenly, two little hatchlings caught my eye. Their shining wings kept reflecting the moonlight above us, it was so bright that I couldn't look away. It was then that I realized they were sisters. No way was I going to separate them! I had to buy both. I had to. I scooped them up, signing their papers, and just as I was passing the treasure over to buy then, I heard a little cry. My two new babies in my arms, I hurried over to see where the sound was coming from.

The sound lead me to a sign that read, "Auctions Expiring Soon." Beneath it lay a brilliantly-colored baby Coatl. I just had to give her a home, too! I barely had room or money left, but I was determined. Maybe it was fate, maybe it was the lack of sleep, but I was on a mission!

That's when I saw that this little Coatl had a sister as well. Yep. It was time to go bankrupt. Four Coatls left that auction night with me, two with white and purple, snuggled together, and two with rainbow-colored wings, following in flight overhead.

I was nearly home with everyone in tow, when suddenly, one of the rainbow hatchlings started tugging on my leg. At first, I ignored her, and tried to shuffle her inside with the others. But no matter what I did, she wouldn't enter. Something was wrong.

I tried to keep her quiet, knowing the other dragons were sleeping, but nothing calmed her, so I walked her towards the edge of the Crystalspine Reaches. I couldn't understand her, but maybe Cillian could. He was not going to be pleased that I snuck out...

Right on schedule, the nighttime hunting crew was making their way back from Bamboo Falls. Cillian, our clan's patriarch, spotted me, and swooped down out of the moonlit sky. "What are you doing out here?!" He asked. "And what is-- Are you buying more hatchlings?!" He eyed the Coatl trying to climb out of my arms.

"Please, Cillian," I replied. "There's something wrong. Please, talk to her!" I held the baby up to him. He looked exasperated, but concerned.

"This is why you don't bring hatchlings home in the middle of the night." He watched the Coatl for a bit, she kept flying around us, and then he sighed. "It seems she wants to go back to the auction."

"But why?" I asked. He said he couldn't tell, but that he would take us there, since he figured I would go there with or without him. Back at the night auction, the Coatl flew one way, then she flew another, and then she took off like a rocket towards the auctions closing sign. What on earth had gotten into her?

Cillian and I both looked down to see the little Coatl smiling happily with a beautiful male hatchling. "Wow," I said. "His wings look just like hers!"

"That's because they're siblings," Cillian replied, pointing to the card with the seller's name on it. It was mere hours before his auction would expire. I looked at Cillian with horror.

"If you've spent all the treasure we've saved," he said gravely, "we can't purchase him."

I wanted to cry. Why had I been so careless with spending? Cillian was right. I shouldn't have even snuck out to come to this place. I felt Cillian's hand on my shoulder.

"There may be a way. I'll go sell the last wares I have in my bags, things we can bear parting with. You write a letter to the owner of the hatchling. Maybe, maybe there's some way we can--"

"Oh, thank you!" I cried, giving him a big hug. His brilliant plan just might work! I got to work at once writing my letter.

It was mere minutes before the night auction would close. I left the letter at the stand, and tearfully, had to carry the Coatl I bought away from her brother. Cillian met up with me with the treasure he had managed to earn, but it wasn't enough. "I'm sorry," he said, looking down at his weary clan members.

We were close, I thought. We were so close. But it wasn't enough. Our only hope now was in the letter I wrote, asking to let me buy the Coatl at a later time. Cillian was even willing to hunt through the night to try to earn the amount we needed.

On our way back to the lair, I noticed something glinting in Cillian's bag. "What's that?" I asked, but he didn't answer me. Now I knew something was up. I grabbed whatever it was before he could stop me, and in my hands I held an Unhatched Nocturne Egg. Cillian just stared at me.

"We could have sold this," I whispered. "We could have sold this!" I fell to ground, holding that egg to me like it would release all of my regret. But it didn't. Cillian and the little Coatl were silent.

The moon shone cold overhead. "You wouldn't have sold it," the patriarch finally said. "You would have kept that egg just like you keep all the hatchlings who come here."

He was right. I really wasn't used to the way of things in this land. The way of dragons coming and going. I had never even so much as exalted a dragon before, much less sold one. I stood up, ready to return home.

But the egg, the egg in my arms started glowing. A white flash of light burst forth from it, and before I could react, out flew a new Nocturne dragon, circling and circling above us in the moonlight! She was beautiful. Cillian and I stood there, stunned.

Someone was coming down the road. Perhaps they saw the Nocturne, newly hatched, circling above our heads, or perhaps they simply knew where to go. But either way, a clear voice came ringing on the air.

I spun around to see MissLiska holding the beautiful rainbow Coatl and my letter in their hands. They looked a little out of breath, and eyeing me realized I was a fairly new person in this land, and was the one who had asked to buy the hatchling. Before I could think straight, they started handing me the most wonderful familiars, and telling me that they were so happy that someone had purchased the sisters, so happy that these hatchlings were going to have a home. Dazed, I tried to hand them what little money Cillian had made before the auction closed.

But MissLiska was giving them to me as a gift. To welcome me to Flight Rising. In one amazing, outstanding swoop, they had solved all of my problems! I was so happy, I could have cried, I could have kissed and hugged them! Flustered, I said some parting to words to them, and each of us went out into the night, back to our respective homes, smiles on our faces and dragons just as glad as we were.

And so, Lunala and her sister Laluna were named after the light of the moon, whose glinting coats lead me on a most miraculous adventure. The rainbow siblings Leilani, Leilana, and Kailani are here, too, along with Moonlight, the Nocturne dragon. You can read more about all of these dragons on their respective pages. =)

"So, what have you learned?" Asks Cillian.

"Ummm... that I need to make more money?" :D I reply.

...Uh-oh. Don't think that was quite what he was going for. o_o

Welcome to the clan, Lunala! Show Cillian we made the right choice! ;D

Apparently, while Lunala was waiting back at the Lair for Leilani and I to return, Nala-chan started making friends with the Masked Phantom familiar! It's a wonder she even saw it. In my book here it says it's "invisible to the naked eye." I wonder what kind of powers Nala really possesses. o.o

As you can see, it has been rather busy around the lair, what with all the new clan members and hatchlings growing up! Nala-chan grew up on the same day as her sister, and so far the pair seem to like it here. ^_^
