Urik is able to reduce the pain that others feel - if a dragon or familiar is injured, he can keep them numbed and more comfortable until he can treat the wound or Nekheula can get round to them (if the injury is deadly). Astureon and some of the elder dragons have been teaching him how to deal with various ailments, training him to be able to help. Astureon also taught him a little bit of herbology, letting him know which plants are useful in healing or calming others down.

He and Nekheula are close, since their powers are similar, but so are their worries - what if they have to deal with a dragon who's severely injured and the images stay with them for the rest of their lives? What if they can't save them?

What Urik never brings up is that he has to do the healing himself - he doesn't have Nekheula's ability to do it magically.
