B I O G R A P H Y

Ayuna was an orphan, taken in by the clan at the height of their first Thundercrack Carnivale. She was a solitary hatchling, preferring to be left alone with her tools and her books than to play with the others. One of the older hatchlings saw to it that she never got a moment's peace. Calliope took Ayuna under her wing as a big sister, and though the ditzy, goody-two-shoes singer couldn't have been more different than the skulking, scheming Ayuna but she never gave up. Ayuna went on to become a tinkerer and inventor, working on machines that were mostly to cause pain, discomfort or harm. She intended to use these on the leader of the clan out of curiosity; could she, a mere tinker, covertly eliminate such a powerful dragon? Whether by luck or by willful action, Calliope always seemed to find a way to destroy everything created for this purpose. Ayuna always failed.

She kept up this hobby of hers for many years, eventually seeing it as more of a game than anything. Make it bigger, nastier, give it more teeth. She became a master at making traps, and was often commissioned to make them for the vulnerable areas of the lair no one had any business getting into. Her creations were strong enough to drive off an imperial hundreds of times her size and she was proud of each and every one. Calliope warned her constantly about being safe, that she was making them too dangerous, but Ayuna didn't listen. One fateful day, the clan's airborne lair was rocked by an unexpected wind. Ayuna and Calliope were in her wing of the lab when it happened, and their tiny bodies were thrown about. Ayuna was battered, but fine. Calliope, however, was dead, mangled by one of her sister's own creations. The devastated Ayuna fled her clan and wandered aimlessly through the Scarred Wasteland, hoping to die out there to pay for what she'd done.

While there, waiting to die, she was found by a tiny abandoned hatchling. Though she only wanted to be left alone, the hatchling refused to leave. Eventually Ayuna began to accept her, calling her Calliope after her lost sister. Once she began to see this hatchling as her new sister, she knew she would never let her come to the same fate as her sister and swore to protect her. When the clan finally tracked her down, she begged not to be separated from the hatchling, and was reluctantly allowed to care for her as they doubted she would harm her.

Since then she has dedicated herself to studying biology, creating treatments and medicines to save lives instead of doing harm. She has completely given up tinkering except where it overlaps with her new interest, having made a few machines to analyze samples and keep things cold and sterile. Her artificial skin and stores of blood saved many lives during the invasion, redeeming her in the eyes of most of her clan. The new Calliope was one such dragon saved, her entire body needing Ayuna's magically-synthesized skin. Strangely, after recovering from this, Calliope changed her name to Lotus and her breed as well and began behaving very differently. Ayuna doesn't know why or what triggered this, but remains supportive.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Ayuna is passionate where her interests are concernced, easily going off into tirades on technique and the proper way to process a sample and how she organizes her data. She finds like-minded dragons engaging company, even if their passion differs from hers.

Depression and melancholy can overtake her at times. Even her passion fades in the shadow of her pain and she retreats into herself, isolating herself in her laboratory. During these times, she will not open up to anyone, and her room will be locked to all but her sister Lotus. She is trying to be more friendly with her clan after many years of being cold and standoffish with them, but progress is slow and she's only just starting to feel like she's part of her clan.
