"I could have sworn I saw you hatch from a Plague egg, not an Arcane egg! Did some sort of weird space magic sneak in before you were born?"
Lavandula frowned at her father, clutching her small stack of books defensively to her chest.
Her father sighed, seemingly with a note of disappointment. "Why can't you just be like the rest of us? Staring at the damn stars won't get you anywhere in life, nor will it support our flight."
"If I'm such a deadweight, Father, then why can't I just leave?" Lavandula murmured, venom edging her voice.
It took him a moment to register that. "...Then go."
"W-Wait, really—?"
He rounded on Lavandula, teeth bared. "I said go. If you're gonna chase after an utterly useless job and use up the resources of your home flight, then just GO!"
With only a cold stare, Lavandula ran from her father without a single parting word. Fine then, she thought when she paused at the border between the outskirts of the Plague and Arcane domains. As long as I'm doing what I want, I'll be happy. I never liked Plague anyway.
At that, she stepped across the border.
