Beast

Beast is a regular Pearlcatcher at first glance; however, her blood runs an inky-black, her flesh is a dark hue, and her green eyes have black sclera. Her wind magic has traces of the void within, even though she rarely uses it, forgoing it for fighting with the tempered power of the abyss. Perhaps the most frightening part of her appearance is the black pearl she carries.

Beast doesn't know what is means to speak "quietly" and her voice can be heard reverberating throughout the lair. She has so much energy that she can barely sit still, and oftentimes paces about the lair or taps her talons on the hard stone floor. She has a bit of a short temper and a grouchy demeanor, perhaps related to the dark circles under her eyes. But even with her rough attitude and sometimes-abrasive behavior, she cares about her clanmates, and can be found fussing over their health and wellbeing.
Beast is Shade-touched, but her particular brand of infection is almost symbiotic- attempts at removing it have caused her intense pain and would likely kill her. So instead, her clanmates have devised methods to stabilize it and ensure it spreads no further. The Shade has entirely taken over her magic, and as a result she doesn't feel safe being hired out to other clans (as they surely wouldn't feel safe around her). So she hunts for the clan instead, using solely her physical strength to capture prey.

Once, this dragon's name was Edel, and she lived among a clan of other pearlcatchers in the Windswept Plateau. While learning to hunt among the clouds, Edel was dive-bombed out of the sky by a mindless, zombie-like dragon that left a black bite wound on her right hip.
The wound refused to heal, and Edel began to change- her eyes turned dark, her pearl turned black as the abyss. Her clanmates were horrified at her condition, and some of them offered to go out on a mission with her to find a cure... and then, weeks into the mission, they vanished in the night and left Edel stranded.
Edel begun to drift, believing herself unworthy of a clan or the company of other pearlcatchers, assuming she'd been abandoned for her appearance. Eventually she would learn the name of her condition- she was Shade-touched. She found herself in the canyons of the Shimmering Expanse, among a clan of other Shade-touched, and renamed herself "Beast"; for with the destruction she spread, she was no better than one.
Then a young spiral by the name of Halo stumbled into the clan. Halo seemed... lost, frightened. Almost like Beast when she was a child. She took Halo under her wing and watched him from the shadows. When the Shade sunk its tendrils into Halo and he fell towards death's door, Beast spread her wings and fled the Shade-touched clan with him grasped in her talons.
After finding a paladin to cure Halo, the duo began to wander. Until they found a clan that would accept a Shade-steeped dragon such as Beast into its fold.

Beast has been a guardian to Halo since they met in the Shade-touched clan, and that hasn't changed. Though their duties differ, Beast still cares deeply for the Spiral, and often takes him out gathering with her to pass on her knowledge to him.
Radium regards Beast as a curiosity, and Beast is comfortable with this; often letting Radium run tests and experiments on her. She trusts the mirror and her assistant to not hurt her... mostly.
