Biography
Maledict the Sick Doctor a twisted path Theme: Witch Doctor Sings a Song |
━━ story ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“Puck, out!” The Coatl fairly disappeared from the battlefield, her Arcane powers whisking her away to some nether plane that Maledict had only heard of, studied, dreamed of. Never visited. He wouldn’t be visiting it ever, if he had anything to say about it. The confusion was complete. Black-feathered Tengu scraped and clawed at the darkness, the spot where Puck stood, wings flared, just a moment ago. “Here!” Maledict called out, tossing a vile concoction at the mass of disordered talons and pinions. “Catch!” Before the Tengu could react, Maledict’s bottled curse burst on the ground. Blackness darker than shadows coalesced and rose up. Skeletal forms crawled out of the bottle, reaching for their feathered prey. Puck reappeared in a spray of sparkling pink, laughing, her eyes glowing fiery pink in the mist. At the same moment she lashed out with her magic and her tail, Maledict dove. The wasted Talonok screeched in pain and anger, reaching for their slippery Coatl target. Before one of them could lay a claw on her, a second warrior entered the battlefield. With a roar, might silver wings beating, Magina jumped in on the swarm of Tengu so fast that even a bird with a bright mind couldn’t have seen it coming. Magina made short work of the remaining Tengu, only two escaping. “Maledict,” Magina said calling up from beside one of them. “This one’s still alive. You have any sort of… restoration magic in that arsenal of spells?” Magina looked more or less disgusted, but she liked prisoners more than she hated magic. “You are a doctor, aren’t you?” Maledict cackled and shook his head as he twisted over the yet-breathing Tengu. “Which doctor were you expecting?” |

━━ history ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
|
No one is sure where Maledict came from. He came spiraling out of the darkest woods of Shadow territory one evening, laughing and proclaiming his pickled eyeballs must have done the trick. His bone collection was more disturbing than Cruor’s by a long shot, and his maniacal laugh was enough to even give the tough Ridgeback Magina a hard time sleeping at night. All the same, nobody asked many questions, because his knowledge and ability to fight the mind-sick Tengu was unparalleled. Most surprising is the ability of this bend and withered dragon to just stay alive. His already-thin Spiral form looks wasted, and his wide Shadow eyes, though dark as they should be, somehow appear half-blind and milky. Perhaps it’s from all those nights staring into the abyss of those half-alive Talonok. Maledict is always working on his curses and strange concoctions, designed to make the nightmarish existence of the Tengu even more so. Of course, his recipes are probably just as good for dragons. Except for those pickled eyeballs. Nobody’s asked him about those, yet. Perhaps because of a twisted sense of humor, though, Maledict is almost always having fun. His favorite thing to do after a battle is jump from fallen enemy to fallen enemy, announcing gleefully, “No pulse!” when he finds their lives spent at his expense. He even dances, during off-times and in the middle of battle, though most dragons that dance for a living would call the spectacle “horrifying” at best. It’s been speculated that he could potentially kill with his strange dance, but no one has stayed around long enough to find out. In fact, it seems pretty dangerous to even look at Maledict too closely. As a Shadow dragon, Maledict’s bag of tricks never seems to run out. Like his best friend, partner in gleeful death, Puck, he skips from battlefield to battlefield, saving his allies by killing his enemies. Of course, if pressed, he has a pretty good method of healing, too. It seems to take more energy out of him than killing, though. |
━━ familiar ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Void, Maledict’s spirit companion, always appears to be much more somber than Maledict. One glance toward the skeletal mist’s faceless head, searching for eyes that aren’t there, and time seems to stand completely still. Of course, time flows as normal, allowing Maledict’s crazy curses to work their worst magic on his victims. Even though it’s obvious that Void would be perfectly terrifying, stunning, destructive on his own, it’s also obvious that they do their best and most terrible work together. Even though Void seems to be only partially accepting of this apparently permanent partnership, Maledict, as usual, couldn’t be happier. |
━━ clan ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
If Maledict has friends, Puck is his best. Even though she looks very young, little more than a hatchling, she insists she’s really thousands of years old; that doesn’t bode well for sanity. Her Arcane abilities seem to work well with Maledict’s Shadow. Maledict most admires and envies Puck’s spray of sparkling Arcane magic that seems to “switch off” a creature’s ability to use magic, at least temporarily. Because Puck and Maledict don’t get on so well with the more grounded members of the Chase, the two often go live as close to Tengu as they dare, studying more creative and disastrous ways of putting them out of their misery. |
Magina, in some ways, hates Maledict. It’s unclear whether Maledict actually hates anything. Whatever the case, she’s certainly more serious than he is, no matter how well they work together. Perhaps best of all, Maledict simply adores Magina’s ability to rob her victims of stored magic. He wishes that he could do that, but, alas, it is not in his “bag of tricks.” In addition, Maledict’s twisted form and strange zig-zagging method of flying make it very difficult to keep up with her unreasonably fast flying abilities. Magina is the dragon Maledict is most likely to expend his healing abilities for: after all, you can’t get a mana thief just anywhere. |
━━ notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
» Maledict, perhaps paradoxically, possesses incredible regenerative abilities at the cost of some of his magic reservoir. Whenever he is hurt, he seems to glow in a strange green and blue hue, his wounds disappearing as though they never were. He can even turn this ability to help others if absolutely necessary. » » Maledict Deathward is his full name. It’s unclear where he got it, but most dragons assume he came up with it himself. » » Maledict, like other Spirals, is hyperactive. Perhaps unlike other Spirals, though, Maledict is obsessed with death, his own especially. He fears it greatly, and simply knows he’ll find a cure for death before it comes for him. |
aesthetic: Maledict likes anything magical, from Arcane crystals to strange enchantable gemstones. He tends to wear them, along with strange bones and spell residuals. |
likes: no pulse, dancing, laughing, learning, creating vile concoctions, unusual magic abilities dislikes: killjoys, insane creatures _________________________________________________________ |
