Maura is a ferocious priestess easily driven to fanaticism. In the company of the elegant and soothing, if strict, Lightfoot and the silent and pious Myrrh, she appears almost savage. Being in her company is unpleasant for a multitude of reasons, not least of all because of the putrid smells that follow her.

Yet her fervor in mysticism and gifting prophecies and visions to Scarlet is next to none. She favours rites of sacrifice and embalming in good-smelling oils, and can often be seen carrying small urns hanging from her raiments. In the effluviums unurned, she finds her visions of lost knowledge.
