when i first got Yzo, she was a spiral with iridescent/basic/gembond. i applied the obelisk scroll & fissure gene, and gave her some lore - not sure i ever wrote it down anywhere, but i'll tell you about it anyway!
she was the protector of a deep-sea cave that was used to keep "dangerous characters" under wraps. namely my progen, Isti, who i made into an angry/vindictive/destructive type because i wasn't sure what to do with her, and she seemed very separate from the rest of my clan. so to come up with a reason why the rest of my dragons might choose not to associate with her, i made her someone who doesn't care if she's hurting others, which is quite different than the values i give to most of my other dragons, lol. then i figured Isti would need someone around to make sure she didn't go on a rampage, and i thought keeping her under the ocean would restrict her enough to prevent that, because she is a teeny tiny wind-element dragon who probably would not be able to swim all the way to the surface on her own. ergo, underwater confinement, with water-specialized guards!
i chose to make Yzo the Obelisk breed because i wanted her to be able to become part of the rock walls of the cave, so she could hide out of sight while still keeping watchful eye over her domain. she took the role not because she wanted to punish anyone, but because she wanted to protect the communities she loves, even though she was a dragon of few words and preferred to spend most of her time alone. that made the guard role appealing - she didn't have to talk to any of the dragons being held under the sea, because someone else was in charge of feeding and otherwise caring for them. Yzo got to spend most her time by the mouth of the cave, as both a last barrier to escape, and the receiver of supply shipments, where she would speak for a while to the delivery dragon and learn of what was going on in the outside world. i thought of Yzo as a dragon who was sweet, quiet, strong, and kind, and someone with a deep desire to contribute to society while also not having to be among the hustle and bustle of any population hubs. she was happy to have a very important role, and didn't mind the usual silence of it all. there were a few regular delivery dragons who would befriend Yzo and bring her special nonessentials, like books and art supplies. she enjoyed making little rock sculptures that she would then send back out into the world with the delivery dragons, and that made her happy.
