Biography

The waterfall placed within the main boundaries of clan civilization leads to a more substantial river delta. The water bubbles cheerily though the clefts of the Windswept Plateau, dropping across steep ascents and winding its way between the reeds. All is calm and pristine here save for the chatter of various creatures.

The deeper part of the river suddenly surges up as a sinuous form emerges from the waters. What appears to be an immense pile of blue gemstones abruptly shifts in the middle of the water, twisting towards shore. It takes some time to recognize the long, elegant form as an imperial as it swims towards the shoreline, a large fish clutched tightly in its jaws. Its large bulk hardly seems heavy as the dragon twists up onto the plateau and shakes the water from its body. The liquid makes the blue iridescent scales shimmer even more, the black circuitry markings stark against the cobalt coloration. The imperial fans its emerald wings, the mechanical supports along the leading edges creaking faintly as it adjusts to the movement.

It takes a few moments for the imperial to realize that it has a visitor. The change is immediate; the dragon immediately shrinks in small upon itself, tail curling around its paws. It looks away, seemingly embarrassed. "O-oh," it -she- begins meekly. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize someone was looking for me."

After an extended silence the imperial seems to have no intention of breaking, she clears her throat awkwardly. "U-um, would you like some of this fish?" She adds politely. "Kileth manages most of the fishing, but I always find one or two good ones when I swim." She starts to relax, deep cerulean blue eyes gleaming as she beams. "I'm Shyscale, by the way. Welcome to the Fire Phoenix clan."

B I O G R A P H Y

The third dragon of the clan and an adopted water dragon, Shyscale was the first dragon to join the Fire Phoenix Clan upon its founding. The progeny of a black female imperial and her blue-green imperial mate, Shyscale was one of many offspring hatched from the same nest at the shores of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Her family was hard-pressed to take care of so many hatchlings, and Shyscale often found herself neglected in the rush. As a young adult, she found herself separated from her family, and was offered a place to rest by Anaster and Jadeite. When her clan did not reappear to take her back, Shyscale decided to become a permanent resident of the wind lair. Her brilliant blue hide and black circuitry markings are distinct amongst the clan. She has an impressive wingspan for a dragon of her species, and as she has spent most of her years under the Fire Phoenix clan she thinks of herself as more a wind than a water dragon. However, true to her place of birth, she enjoys swimming within the rivers and streams of the territory; she has exceptional skill at catching fish, as her colors tend to blend in with the water. While her wings are large, they are relatively weak, making it hard for her to fly for long distances; a metal skeleton was designed by Etura and outfitted along her wings to help provide support and strength to her flight. Shyscale is still more adept at soaring flight than anything else, but thoroughly enjoys the time she spends airborne with her fellow clan members. True to her name, Shyscale is an outspoken dragon who would rather help from the sidelines rather than be at the center of attention. Intelligent and thoughtful, she is kind and caring to friends and strangers alike, a gentle giant in personality as well as appearance. While it takes her some time to approach a new dragon, she enjoys the company of others, and can be quite sociable once her shyness disappears. Shyscale thinks long and hard before speaking, and many have learned to listen to her when she does decide to state her opinion. She often cowers from conflict or negativity between other members of the clan, even if these feelings are only perceived. However, she has also been known to act both bravely and boldly when under pressure; Shyscale often places the lives of others before her own, and will not hesitate to jump into danger to preserve another life. Her shy and compassionate nature can be misleading in battle; while she would rather solve conflict with words rather than battle, Shyscale can hold her own if driven to fight. She is best suited to fight defensively, but she makes good use of her bulk and sharp claws when on the offensive. She is the largest member of Team Alpha in battles and tournaments, along with the clan leaders Jadeite and Anaster. Shyscale is also tasked with the secondary line of leadership; if Anaster, Jadeite, or their children are unable to lead the clan at any point, her duty is to take charge of the lair until a more concrete leadership is decided upon. However, she does not care to be a leader at all, and has even turned down the offer of water emissary position; she prefers to enjoy a life free from the limitations of duties imposed by others. Shyscale is close friends with much of the clan, and while she used to have eyes for Coel as a younger dragon, Kyan is her true mate. She keeps in contact with many of her offspring, and especially cares for the youngest son of her first clutch, Teiru, who has remained in the clan. Many of her children have moved to live in friendly neighboring clans, including Isolde of the Kittystar clan, Azaran of Chococat’s lair, and Bravetalon from brighthawk’s clan. Shyscale even maintains contact with her hatch-brother, Zephyr, and her wandering daughter Tatelia.
