BLOOD-SAVANT
Blood-Savant dragons are born with crimson runes displayed on their scales. These runes, said to be created by a ritual performed on the on the dragon while it is still just an egg, use powerful plague magics to magnify a single ability of a dragon. Each Blood-Savant dragon has a different enhancement, usually these are known to the dragon when it hatches, but some dragons may take years to figure out their power. The augmentation, or 'savant', of each dragon can be anything from powerful magics or enhanced intelligence, to an intensified personality trait.

ABOUT.
Umbra is one of the original two Blood-Savant dragons. They had created and preformed the ritual on themselves in order to try and obtain powers closer to the gods, and while they did gain more power they were ultimately unsuccessful in their endeavor. Since the ritual any hatchlings they produce were unable to survive long without being turned into "Blood-Savants" themselves. The ritual itself can be done on dragons while they are still eggs, and has no negative side-effects if it is done on dragons before they hatch. It is usually Umbra who collects the ingredients.

Although he is slowed down by illness quite often, Umbra still seeks to become as strong as the deity dragons. Originally this was so that he could become strong enough to protect himself and never be afraid of a fight again, but he has mellowed out a great deal since his younger days.

Umbra is generally a kind dragon, but he can be a bit of a recluse. He is generally willing to help a dragon in need, but ever since the ritual he has been a bit more withdrawn. Presently, Umbra is much more hesitant to give advice to just any dragon, as his savant is knowledge and he knows the power that comes with that.
