There was a time when Orion was a perfectly normal dragon, with perfectly normal interests, perfectly normal apparel, and a perfectly normal family in a perfectly normal lair. Unfortunately for him, that all changed.


There are certain places in Light territory that one should never dare venture, and one of those places lies under the Arena. It’s called the Bloodworks, from when the Arena was used and the blood of combatants would drip down into the pit. Orion’s sense of adventure led him to explore down there, seeking treasure, fame, or maybe just a good horror story. The only one of those he managed to get was the horror story.


The Bloodworks was a maze; one he hadn’t anticipated, full of darkness, blood, and the ghosts of long-dead combatants who were crazed with being lost. Orion found himself trapped in a labyrinthian hell. Screams sounded constantly throughout the corridors, his claws scrabbled for purchase on stones slippery with blood and grime, and ghosts attacked him at every turn, scratching his glistening scales and wailing with the injuries they’d died from.

It dripped constantly from the ceiling, going taptaptaptaptaptaptap all hours of the day and night, wearing a hole in Orion’s sanity. And once that hole was worn, the rest of his sanity went quickly.

He emerged, two years later, quite a different dragon. Gone was the studious and proud perfectly normal Light dragon. In his place was a cackling jokester with an unhinged smile and a propensity for brightly clashing colors. He will never again go underground, and he’ll probably never regain the sanity or normalcy he lost.
