Monty is Drab's most prized jewel, her son. Though unlike his very social and open mother, Monty would sooner breakdown than talk to another dragon. And him suffering these anxieties and such a nervous nature may have come into play from his own mother's instinctual wish to keep him safe from the harms of the world...
Monty makes up for his shyness by serving as an apprentice for Drab. He's the one thats sent out to gather supplies for potions and tests. Nervously holding test tubes or tasting concoctions; more or less getting his fur blown off or breaking into hives from the after effects.Monty also helps his blinded mother get around too, acting as her silent crutch. Which he doesn't mind, he'd much rather hide under Drab's wing and be fussed over anyways. Drab really does baby Monty, and he's become quite the momma's boy, being subject to overly loving hugs, having his fur constantly licked, and even being unwillingly pushed by Drab to go talk to the other dragons; all of these are daily things for Monty.
The only one besides Monty's mother who's willing to try and communicate, is Oakwood. Oakwood's skiddish and energized presence alone is enough to cheer Monty up, or even get him to not be so shy. The hyperactive Mirror has been dubbed Monty's best friend, even if they don't necessarily "talk", they have a friendly understanding. Monty listens while Oakwood rambles on about random thoughts, or simply uses Monty as a jungle gym.
