Biography
Isaac
Quiet • Afraid • Coping Scholar's Assistant He/Him Demisexual Partner |
"I-I don't like being stared at, so could you please stop..." Some clans have proceeded into modernity. Others have stayed behind, practicing old ways and passing on antique beliefs. The boy’s home clan lived in the crescent of the hills, nestled beside a small stream. He had both mother and father, and many siblings to tend to the fields, who humbly worshiped Lightweaver together as a happy family. He was one of the few in the clan with dark hair, as time had made light genes the dominant colors in the village to honor their goddess. His parents quieted his doubts about his nature, though the hatchlings in his lessons ridiculed him and called him evil, shade-touched, a mistake. He didn’t want to believe them. But then a member of the clan was found to be infected with the dark disease after travelling beyond their boundaries for trade. The priests tried to heal them, to purge them, but to no avail. Fear began to spread through the clan, and a group of them got together to hunt and cleanse the shade completely from their midst. Trials would be held in the center of the village, using fire and water, stripping his fellow dragons of their clothes and searching for dark traces over their bodies. This carried out for many years. They wiped out half of the population before they descended upon his family. He was the one taken. In the dead of night, lit by torches, he was ripped from his mother’s arms and drug to the village center, where many had perished before him. They stripped him of his clothes and held him on trial, citing that the hair on his head had grown dark because of the blackness that had infested his body the day he was born, but he knew he was innocent. He wept, he cried and begged for pardon but no one believed. He screamed for his mother and father but they had turned against him, crying that their boy had always been different. Why had he hatched different from the others? They strapped him to the post and burnt him brighter than the Radiant Eye. The clan, through years of paranoia and isolation, eventually wiped themselves out completely. His ghost remained. It was there a strange and kind presence rescued him. It gave him a new body, a new life. He knew breath and blood again. He wandered briefly through the hills before he laid down in the darkness near the Hewn City. He wept and wished for death again. Who could tell if it would find him. |
