It was on a scouting mission that Calamity and Jinx found Fortune. They had ventured far that day, wandering out to very edges of the Starfall Isles in search for some scrolls that Memories had wanted. Just inside the border between the Isles and the Scarred Wasteland lay the prone body of the Wildclaw, stretched out and unconscious. There didn't appear to be any marks on her body except for the creeping contagion of the Gembond, but she was haggard and stirred weakly as they came closer.

They took her back to the Apolkyrfas, careful to not let the Gembond spread to them as well. As Memories examined her, he found that the Gembond had already infected her innards, the dark gleaming fungus-like gems covering every inch of her organs and filling her body. He told Calamity and Jinx that she would be unlikely to survive another hour, much less a day. And yet, she did. She woke after a week and regained her strength over the next month, refusing to speak a word even as her trust of the clan grew.

Finally, the WIldclaw spoke. She told them of her old clan, which had guarded the base of the Pillar of the World, each chosen specifically by the Earthshaker for the purpose. She told them of her strange tattoos, spread over her face and her wings and her legs, which marked her as a Keeper of the Pillar and which she had earned after enduring terrible trials. She told them of how she earned her schynbalds, given only to the Elite of the Keepers by the Earthshaker himself, and how proud she and her family was. She told them of her encounter with an Onyx Cobra, how it bit her and infected her with its poison, and how she had to run - get away, get away before she infected the other Keepers with the disease.

But there was something strange about the type of Gembond that afflicted Fortune. For although her internal organs had essentially been turned into a mass of gleaming gems, her hide had only a few of the stones. And no one else in the Apolkyrfas had ever contracted the disease, even after a few accidents where the WIldclaw's gems had contacted their skin. None of them dared to hope - but could it be? Might the Gembond Fortune contracted be noncontagious?

One day, Fortune swears that she will return to her clan in Dragonhome. But for now, her place is here. Her place is with the dragons of the Apolkyrfas, who she has grown to trust and love. Her place is as the protector of the clan, who she swore to defend from any danger, no matter what it is. Her place is as the physician of the clan, as she counts diseases amongst the enemies that she must fight against, and as she refuses to let any disease make anyone experience the loss she felt in leaving her clan.

She may not be able to fly high or well anymore due to the gems in her belly, but Fortune doesn't let that stop her. It's not an uncommon sight to see her running, gliding close to the ground along the bottom edge of the island's strange curves, defying gravity. The cheerful Wildclaw is the first to show newcomers around the island, so familiar is she with it and so proud of it, of this beautiful place in which she found a new family, a new home.
