 E A R L Y ⚔ C H I L D H O O D Kurokishi, also called “Knight”, was not always built for battle. He was the runt of his clutch and his three female teased him relentlessly for it. They called him names – coward; mommy’s boy; crier – but he never cried. He never made a sound. His mother came down hard on her daughters whenever she caught wind of their antics, but they hated him all the same. He faced their torment despite his weak knees and gummed-up lungs, and slowly grew stronger. Having his nose ground into puddles of pus-like mess only built his immunity. Being tripped over by ‘stray’ tails taught him vigilance. Being the smallest taught him how to strike from below. He soon caught up with his sisters, both physically and mentally, and this infuriated them more than anything. It was as if he was growing out of insolence, but he took their spite on the chin. He learned the value of solitude quickly, and often went out alone in order to be free of his sisters. There was something wonderful about running, and he did it often – loping through the messy membranous tangles, hearing his feet thump into the spongy earth and listening to the skittering of small creatures as they darted away. During one of these trips he encountered a Longneck tribe, and while the Beastclans were not hostile at this point in time their guard animals were certainly surprised by his arrival. He was attacked by a Double-Tailed Warcat and managed to fend it off, but not before it caught him a savage wound across the hips. The Longnecks were understandably distressed by this, as the last thing they wanted was a war with a dragon family, so they dressed his wounds and offered him anything he wanted in an attempt to appease him. He refused their offers with mute shakes of the head, quietly insisting that he needed nothing in the way of apology. Gifts among Plague-landers are rare, due to the scant resources, and he understood that accepting anything would obligate his clan to repay in kind. His family soon realized that he was missing and came looking for him, much to the terror of the Longneck tribe. His mother arrived, her red eyes not yet hidden by the cowl she would later don, and in her quiet but powerful voice politely asked why her son was covered in bandages. After some time, the panicked Longnecks were calmed, and the two parties returned home – the Longnecks greatly relieved and the dragons with the ‘troublesome’ Warcat in tow. For some reason, his sisters opted to stay away from him after that. The third-eldest grew jealous of her brother's 'pet' and became lost one day in an attempt to find her own. She was taken in and enjoyed being pampered in her new clan and opted to stay, which broke her mother’s heart. The other two sisters soon drifted away, drawn by promises of greatness, leaving Knight behind to serve his mother alone. He is now one of the oldest and wisest dragons in the clan, never far away from his mother and always with his mate and half-sister by his side. He gets along with pretty much everyone despite his gruff exterior, and serves as a military advisor along with being head warrior. He and Tsuyomi have a special bond as quiet warriors, and together the two of them make a terrifyingly huge duo.
