Biography

You will find your answer in the Hewn City.

Dearest was a dragon beloved for her ice powers. From birth, her parents thought she was the most gracious gift to dragon kind. Dearest was always given constant attention and she loved it. She put on shows showcasing her abilities with ice and snow. Humble and polite, she was loved by all in her village.

Her ice shows weren't just swirls of snow and throwing around ice. They were battle moves. It took training and hard work to create her tricks. Summoning ice, moving it around in shapes and patterns it wasn't easy and took dearest years to learn. While dragons were defending her village from rivals, she watched them and tried to mimic how they would summon ice. She eventually got the hand of it and instead of shooting ice at a target she'd move it around in the air, or even split it into pieces and move them individually.

When she was only 23, she was killed by a jealous lover who had his love refused. Dearest had put on a show away from home in a larger town, when a red and brown fire Imperial named Snowflame asked for her claw in love. During their encounter, a friend of Snowflame tried to call him over. He turned around and angrily yelled at his friend to leave him alone. When he turned back to Dearest he was calm and composed. After seeing the Imperial's violent side, she refused, knowing that one day he may take that violence out on her.

Snowflame had a temper that was short and destructive. Angry that he had been turned down, he tried to kill Dearest. As skilled as she was with ice, nothing could compare with a fire dragon and a quick bite to the neck is very hard to recover from. She died instantly.

Snowflame turned to leave when a Skydancer saw him. The Skydancer's jaw was open in shock. Snowflame glared. He had no intention of killing the Skydancer but-

"DEAREST IS DEAD!" the Skydancer screamed, running in panic.

Snowflame took off into the night, breaking the roof of the theatre. It wasn't long until he was found, being a giant Imperial with a firey red mane and all. When he was found, the water flight Guardian leading the patrol killed him on sight.

The patrol buried the body far from the town in an abandoned farm field and didn't mark the grave. No one saw them except the thieving ice Mirror from Dearest's village.

When it came time to bury Dearest she was taken back to her village and buried in the back of a small cave. A shrine was made as a grave marker. Everyone in the village came to lay something on her shrine. Some fish, frozen flowers, and trinkets covered her grave, each dragon saying what they gave as they set them down. The last in line was the thief Mirror. Anyone else who had stuck around thought he might try to steal something had he not been holding a cloth covered item. Drawing a crowd because "when did a thief give?", he removed the cloth with a flourish and said "The head of your killer." and placed it in the center of the shrine carefully, as if it might evaporate into dust at any moment. Shocked gasps echoed around the cave, no one knew what to say. This dragon had just placed the head of her killer on her grave. It was an act never done before and no one knew whether it was disrespectful or not. The Mirror bowed and left the cave, leaving the others wondering what to do about it.

In the end, they left the head there. It was a good decision, Dearest loved the closure that her killer was dead, and she got to see his shocked face for all of until the flesh rotted away.

It didn't do good to keep the head though. The thrill of knowing Snowflame was dead brought her sick joy, and she became vengeful because she wanted to live again so she could kill.

Hundreds of years later, after the flesh had fully rotted from the skull, there was a particularly bad snowstorm happening that night. A group of three Coatls came through the cave to shelter.

After centuries of being dead and growing vengeful, Dearest's spirit was not as kind as she was the day she died. Not at all. One of the Coatls was purple and appeared to be blind. Dearest wouldn't have cared had the blind Coatl not knocked the skull off her shrine, breaking a small branch off of a horn. She was enraged. Her prized trophy of her killer's head was broken, all because this careless hatchling knocked it over.

The Coatls didn't stay there very long, only 2 days as the storm passed. Ghost Rules say that if a being destroys or damages a shrine dedicated to a being of the dead, as long as the grave is under the shrine the spirit can follow the being who broke it.

That's exactly what Dearest did.

When Dearest arrived at the island the Coatls stopped at, the purple one began...dying? His legs and arms froze up while the other two stood there and laughed. When the purple one was done being frozen, the other two flew off, laughing. Dearest couldn't help but feel bad for the few days of nightmares she gave him. The Coatl wasn't dead because she didn't see his spirit, so he was alive. At that time, Dearest vowed to protect this Coatl during, and after, his life.

After years so long she lost track, a purple tundra and a silver and blue fae appeared on the island. The tundra and fae looked shocked and horrified to see the several statue like dragons, all alive, inhabiting the island. The tundra immediately opened a satchel and pulled out a few books, to which he and the fae started flipping through frantically. The fae seemed to have found the right book, and recited an incantation. As soon as she finished speaking it, all the frozen dragons on the island were...alive again? They weren't dead but they weren't frozen anymore. Apparently the island had a curse that dragons with certain genes would be frozen like a statue.
