Archaeologist
Adventurous • Perceptive • Dedicated
Though she comes from a family of bandits, Sedona's interest never was in robbing banks or wreaking havoc on the Shattered Plains, but instead in exploring ruins and collecting relics. She left her family early to pursue knowledge of Sornieth's past.
She started by exploring the Shattered Plains' ruins. Cairnstone Rest and the Pillar of the World were brimming with witnesses of the past, managing to occupy the young archaeologist for a few weeks. But Sedona wanted a change of scenery. She could go study the ruins of the Starfall Isles, the Sunbeam Ruins, or even the Forum of the Obscured Crescent, hidden deep in the Tangled Woods... What to do? She did not have to ponder the question for long, as destiny once again pushed a new member towards the Chiroptera Cult. One day, when wandering the Cairnstone Rest, she stumbled upon a peculiar and gruesome scene: an Earth dragon had been brutally murdered, seemingly by some beast (from the injuries she could see), and other dragons were talking animatedly next to the corpse. Most seemed to be from the area (judging by their brown eyes and earthen colors), but one Nocturne was jarringly different in colors, outfit, and manners (from what she could hear, he was being very insulting). Curious, Sedona approached the dragons, careful to make herself known so as to not startle the aggravated dragons and maybe provoke an attack. "Howdy ya'll!", she started amiably, "What seems to be the problem here?" Every dragon present turned towards her, including the mysterious Nocturne, whose eyes flashed a blinding neon green for an instant. The Nocturne's perpetual grin grew wider and more maniacal. "Hello, slug, I was explaining to these maggots here how I had deduced that one of them had murdered the pile of meat other there and tried to make it look like a Beastclan attack." Sedona bristled at the Nocturne's mocking tone and insults. "Listen here, pal, I ain't--" "Oh, excuse me", he interrupted in a condescending tone "I didn't mean to insult you, it's just that all dragons are so stupid compared to me, I can't help but compare you all to insects. Anyways, I've been told I could be more polite, so I'll introduce myself: my name is Neuro Nougami, and I'm a demon from Hell that eats mysteries. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a meal to take... Itadakimasu." And in a split second, Neuro's head had transformed into a gigantic bird-like one, and he had lunged at a guilty-looking, utterly terrified dragon. Neuro then gulped down some sort of green energy emanating from the murderer, swallowed it and let out a sigh of satisfaction. The other dragons present, panic-striken, fled from the scene as fast as they could, but Sedona remained, intrigued by Neuro. Neuro's head having gone back to normal, he wiped his lips, and turned back towards the Ridgeback. "You didn't flee? You've got guts, little slug. Or maybe your brain is malfunctionning." He narrowed his eyes at her. "Or maybe it's your natural curiosity as an archaeologist? Don't look at me like that, your entire outfit just screams adventure and archaeology. Besides, there's nothing much out here except from ruins; I wouldn't be there if I hadn't smelled a meal. But aren't you bored of visiting the same ruins over and over again? Again, easy to deduce when you just instictually avoided the traps and unstable parts of the ruins; you must have visited this place often." The Nocturne came closer and closer to the stunned Ridgeback, pinning her down with his inquisitive, glowing green gaze. "Say, I have an offer for you... You see, I am a wandering demon, but I still somewhat feel tied to a clan from the Tangled Woods, the Chiroptera Cult. There are a number of interesting dragons there; well, I mean, slugs like you, not maggots like those earlier ones. And I know that one, a snake-like dragon -- a Coatl, I think? -- named Athena, a librarian, would love to hear about you experiences. She could also direct you to some other interesting ruins. She's a very capable slug who's already helped me get many meals. So, what say you? Do you want to come with me?". The offer was interesting, too interesting not to take it, and from Neuro's cocky grin, Sedona could tell he knew. Without another word, the demon took flight, and the dragon followed him. Nowadays, Sedona had found a good friend in Athena, who lets her use one of the rest rooms of her library when she needs it, and gives her clues to the location of ancient ruins whenever she find some in books. In return, Sedona has to tell her all about her trip, and write a report on her findings, to be archived in the library. She fell in love with Comnena and her spitfire personnality, and they now frequently explore ruins and then write their reports together. |
