Biography
Lukas Maren
Traits:
Curious, Confident, Instinctual
Born in the north eastern waters between Light and Nature territories, Lukas is an uncommon breed of Maren most often characterized by the reflective blue stripes along their lateral lines.
Lukas grew up at sea, but soon after reaching maturity dragon-kind began hunting not just the more feral Maren that were at war with them, but the peaceful ones as well. Those that were deemed 'beautiful' were caught and kept alive to be sold to the highest bidder and resigned to live the rest of their lives in tanks, while others were carved into fillets and eaten as a delicacy. When Maren that lived in the area began disappearing, Lukas headed farther north towards Nature territory in hopes of avoiding the poachers that seemed to stem from Light, but there was a vessel lying in wait along the border and he was dragged aboard by netting caught in his gills. On deck, he was greeted by smiles full of greed and only placed in a cheap, scratched tank after every part of him was forcibly examined and given a currency value. Lukas was sure his life was over, one way or another, until that night he was awoken by the cover being lifted off his tank and a member of the crew instructing him to escape and not to look back. Before Lukas could think, his tank was being tipped over and he was able to slip off the ship from a groove in the railing designed to hold harpoons. Though the sound of his heart beating in his ears was almost deafening as he resurfaced, Lukas could hear shouting from aboard the ship followed by clashes of metal and nets being unfurled and he swam. He swam through the night until he reached the Gladeveins and even then he didn't stop. He found a river that flowed from deep in the forest and followed it upstream, sometimes crawling where the water wasn't deep enough to swim, until he discovered a large lake at its source. Exhausted, Lukas let himself sink to the bottom of the lake where he fell asleep feeling oddly safe in its depths. When Lukas awoke and surfaced the next day, he was petrified to see dragon-kind along the edge of the lake and expected to be chased off or captured again. However, not one of them looked at him as if he were an enemy or an object with a price tag. More curious than afraid, Lukas slowly approached the small group and asked where he was and who they were. They explained they were part of a clan Lakerest, so named because it lay only a short walk west of the lake, and after hearing his story they assured him he wouldn't be harmed within their borders. More than relieved, Lukas agreed to meet with the clan leaders and was generously given citizenship after only waiting a few days for the decision to be made official. Now living protected from Maren poachers within Lakerest's lake, Lukas learns something new about dragon-kind and their possessions almost every day. Always ready to learn, Lukas spends his days listening to other's stories, inspecting his collection of dragon-made items, and chatting with friends. |
